Unexpected Windows 11 Installation Success
I'm surprised that I successfully installed Windows 11 on this laptop, despite its CPU not being officially supported by Microsoft. It's particularly puzzling that I was able to join the Windows Insider program this morning without any issues.
Accidental OS Installation Mishap
A few months ago, I made an unfortunate mistake while managing my dual-boot setup:
I have two SSDs: one dedicated to Windows and another for Linux.
I had been using a paid version of Zorin OS for nearly a year, but faced a renewal fee for the latest update.
To avoid this cost, I decided to switch to the free MX Linux distribution.
However, I accidentally installed MX Linux on the Windows SSD instead of the Linux drive.
Recovery Process
As a result of this error, I had to take the following steps:
Reinstall Windows on the primary SSD (Windows 11 version 23H2, released on April 25, 2024).
Wipe the Zorin OS installation from the second SSD.
Repurpose the second SSD for Windows data storage.
This experience serves as a reminder to double-check drive selections during OS installations, especially in multi-boot environments.
Perplexity.ai observed that the Windows Insider program sometimes allows installations on hardware that doesn't meet the official requirements, especially for testing purposes.
