The idgits at Microsoft forced the downgrade from Windows Mail to the so-called *New* outlook on my wife's PC a few months ago. I'd been lucky enough to escape that fate, up until today. Up till now there's always been a switch in the upper right corner of both Mail & outlook to switch back, but this time it was missing. Setting up the accounts in outlook worked well enough -- I just LOATH the app. I did find a way to get the old Mail back, but I could not get Gmail to work with it. If you try to start Mail after the permanent switch it flashes open for a few milliseconds, then closes and outlook starts up. If you uninstall Mail however then you'll be able to install it through the Store, and that copy will work. You'll then have to set up any email accounts you want to use, and that's where I encountered problems with Gmail -- it wouldn't work manually or using the quick setting. Allegedly everything's stored in C:\Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Local\ Packages\ microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\, but replacing that folder from backup [which must be done with Windows not running] didn't change a thing. I wound up restoring a backup from a few days ago, so Mail once again works, but Microsoft's apparently chosen to screw with this account, trying harder to get me to switch than previously -- when it tried to switch, opening outlook, I flipped the switch to go back, and a few seconds later it closed Mail & opened outlook again, though flipping the switch to go back held that time.
