The holiday sales have started, and lots of people are going to be buying streaming boxes and smart TVs when they're at their lowest prices of the year. Amazon's working on a new OS for their Fire TV line according to the Lowpass newsletter -- I had never heard of it, but the story has been picked up by several reputable outlets, so the author of the newsletter may be on to something.
And it's something definitely to keep in mind if you were to consider buying one of Amazon's devices, or thinking about replacing the ones you have. Right now Fire TV works with a pretty limited range of Android apps, which could become even more limited, at least initially. Existing devices running the Fire OS could switch to the new one, or not -- either way might be problematic, since the new OS might not work as well on hardware it wasn't designed for, or if it stuck with the soon to be orphaned OS, new versions of apps might not work, while old versions would never be updated.
