   The new AMD attack is called Inception, and it effects all AMD Zen CPUs, including the latest. Intel's is called Downfall. Both manufacturers have updates planned. There's nothing that you, as an individual can do, other than monitor the device or motherboard manufacturer's site for a future BIOS firmware update.

   You'll still have to wait for a BIOS update, but once you get it Linux is ready with a newly patched kernel. Note that the Intel fix slows the CPU down:

   According to Intel, some workloads may experience up to 50% overhead.

   Intel has released their fix, so it's up to the manufacturers now to incorporate it into a new BIOS firmware updates.

   If you update the BIOS on a system with one of the effected Intel CPUs, but find the reduced performance from Intel's fix is unacceptable, Microsoft detailed how to turn it off by editing the Windows registry. For an unknown reason however, Microsoft has removed those directions from their web page dealing with this vulnerability. The linked Neowin article includes those directions that have disappeared from Microsoft's site.
