This could be the best or the worst app ever -- the deciding factor is whether it gets back the lost file(s) you're after when other recovery utilities won't -- which is why I usually collect these things. That said, for me this would be the last recovery app I'd run after trying everything else. There are two reasons... 1st, WorkinTool Data Recovery Pro adds 4 folders: hudun, HuDunData, WorkinTool_DataRecovery, & workintool-data-recovery. The last two strike me as just sloppy or no coordination among the developers -- if you were unsure I'd hope that you'd look whatever up, rather than guessing at the folder name in this instance, and when you [or the boss] found out it was wrong, fix the durn thing. Of course it doesn't matter to the functioning of the app, but a lack of attention to detail here likely means a lack of attention to details everywhere else. The 2nd reason is registry churn. For better or worse, it's not that unusual for a software install to cause a rewrite of one or more registry hives. That's not a huge problem, though not doing the rewrite is better, since the odds of an error are greater when you write 50k or more new entries than when you write 5. Common sense. With WorkinTool Data Recovery Pro I recorded 60k+ for the install, and then 40k+ Every Time The App is Run! That doesn't mean it won't work for you, but like I said, I'd run another recent GOTD, TogetherShare Data Recovery 1st.
WorkinTool Data Recovery Pro is on the large side for this type of app, at just shy of 300MB total. By default it adds all 4 folders to Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\ -- if you do a custom install you can locate the hudon folder elsewhere. Besides rewriting the registry's driver hive, installation adds an uninstall key, one for the app, and adds a permission for itself to Windows firewall.
