Hi guys and gals,

I'm having a strange problem when I access one of my web sites. In the latest version of FF, (110.0 (64-bit) I get no graphics showing, whether it is .jpg, .gif or whatever. What is really weird is that it is only on About Gravesend.

This doesn't happen on other sites, and checking the site in Brave and Vivaldi both show the items. I am sure all was displayed prior to the latest version of FF so am a bit puzzled as to what is causing it.

Can you check the link in various browsers including FF (v?) and let me know what you do or don't see please? I have disabled any addons that I normally use but no change.

I don't know what graphics I'm looking for but I get nothing on FF or Edge. My Ff is updated to the same 110 level so that may not say much.

I note the site is OLD. Most pages state they haven't updated since 2009. They may be using flash which is no longer used. Or just using something that is no longer supported.

Hi there.
Over here the 'About Gravesend' website displays all graphics without any issues.
(tested on the latest Firefox, Chrome and Edge)
The funny thing is however it displays none of the graphics when using the link with the "links.giveawayoftheday" prefix as in your post.
In this case only the name of the graphic is displayed
Might be a filter for security reasons if you open the link on giveawayoftheday.
Off topic:
It would be nice to have a topic to hear about all the people that used to comment in the forums over the years

The site was set up for http, whereas everything nowadays expects, & to some degree enforces https. Copy/pasting about-gravesend.co.uk/index.php into F/Fox & Opera it opens as https://about... but in Edge it opens as the original http://about... & only then do the pictures display.

I haven't looked at let alone dealt with creating web pages in ~2 decades, so I've no idea if there's code that's supposed to be there to make the images accessible over https, or if it's just the browsers refusing to access them over an insecure connection.

Thanks all for checking. It's strange that there are differing results.

Dragonlair, you mention that perhaps flash may be used, all that I used is HTML, CSS and PHP, no flash as I detest it anyway. As to it being OLD, I know I haven't updated it but when I made the site it conformed to the W3C validator test.

mikiem Regarding http/https afaik no 'special' code was needed for the graphics. In fact all was ok until a couple of months ago.
I am wondering if the changes made to html and css by the organisation that sets the use of code have changed enough for the site to now have these problems.

I am now thinking that I will try and find help to convert the code to the present standards, but alternatively just shut the site down as at 76 I am not so clued up as I was then. Re-reading the books etc that I used to learn would be one hell of a chore now.

Oh, I hear you... the last site I had was on CompuServe, which will give you an idea of how long it's been for me. The books you learned from are probably too far out of date to be all that useful -- it *might* be easier just to use one of the free or low cost apps/tools that don't require much if any coding knowledge, & recreate the site. Or you could go the WordPress route. As far as why it doesn't work today, I found this:

Long story short, it says to convert the site to https, which you can read a little about here, which also talks about getting a certificate:

AFAIK the only free source for certificates is here:

When testing Firefox on MX Linux, I had the same experience: no pictures. After changing the link from https to http, I did see all the pictures.

BTW: as a Dutchman, I wonder if there is still something to see in or around Gravesend that makes you remember the Raid on the Medway on June 1667:

Hi folks thought I'd post an update to my problem mentioned originally.

Turns out it was a collection of 11 RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} lines in my .htaccess files. What is really strange is they have been there for over 10 years and have not caused a problem. So they have been disabled and all seems to be back to what it should be when viewing. Pics and background graphics show now.

Except, still having a no show on some with Firefox though, but have seen that all is ok when FF switched to troubleshooting mode so now have to work my way through all the settings that I 'may' have changed. Have asked my Hosting Co to see if they can explain the reason the rules worked for so long and now don't.

This may be a bit of a stretch but it does show simply that someone changed the rules!

Yesterday, I was re-arranging some files by taking them out of one zip and putting them in another. There was a group of files that were NOT changed in any way. They had zipped up fine but when I tried to re-zip them, I got a message that the file names were too long.

NO CHANGE in the file names! They had zipped up fine a few years ago but now they were too long? Someone, somewhere, changed the rules!

Your case may be similar. You just never got caught in the change before.

I've encountered a rather puzzling issue while accessing one of my websites. Upon using the latest version of Firefox (110.0 64-bit), I've noticed that graphics, whether they are in .jpg, .gif, or other formats, are not displaying on the site "About Gravesend." The strange part is that this issue only occurs on this specific site. Interestingly, other websites show graphics correctly, and when I checked the site on Brave and Vivaldi browsers, the graphics appeared as expected. I'm a bit perplexed because I'm certain that all graphics were visible prior to updating to the latest Firefox version. I've even disabled my usual browser add-ons, but the issue remains unresolved. https://www.about-gravesend.co.uk won't resolve at all. http://about-gravesend.co.uk/index.php immediately flips to https://about-gravesend.co.uk/index.php and shows 404 not found. https://gravesend.co.uk/index.php works, but with the following message across the top of the page:

Clicking on "About" near the top of the page opens: https://gravesend.co.uk/about-gravesend/ . That works, and looks the same in Firefox & Edge. There is a new version of Firefox out, but it has not been pushed to local copies of Firefox yet to update the current 116.03.

Muskanuncodemy 2 days ago you posted most of MY post from over 6 months ago which made it look like the 'About-Gravesend' web site is yours? I am the owner of that site and your post implies that you own it. Please make it clear why you want to access it? I have disabled it because after a large number of photo updates that I made had shown up on a Facebook forum without asking me first despite a request on each page to ask first.
