When you perform a search using Google, the top results are usually an ad or two -- it's not obvious, with Google showing a bolded "AD" before the site address, all in Much smaller type than the blue title, which is what stands out. Those ads can be [& too often are] paid for by cyber criminals, and when you click on the link it'll take you to a fake web site that can be a copy of the real one. And if the link from the ad is for software, any download is going to contain malware.
