You should know Icacls exists, then file away that info until the somewhat rare occasion you might need it. In corp & biz IT you need to restrict access to files & folders -- you don't want every employee to have access to how much every other employee is paid for example -- and in that setting Icacls is a handy tool. For everyone else it can be useful when some app, or Windows itself has locked you out of some file or folder that you need to delete, or maybe you are just curious about what it holds. In the 2nd case, when you're not deleting the file or folder, it's a good idea to use Icacls to back up the current permissions 1st, so you can lock that door again once you're done -- restricted access is often implemented to keep out hackers & malware.
