A recent executive brief from data storage industry analyst firm Trendfocus reports that OEMs have disclosed that Microsoft is pushing them to drop HDDs as the primary storage device in pre-built Windows 11 PCs and use SSDs instead, with the current deadlines for the switchover set for 2023.
OEMs are pushing back, trying to delay the switchover, but so far 2023 stands. What's not said, or rather asked, but implied is "Why the push from Microsoft"? Is this purely marketing, making Win11 laptops & PCs more competitive when compared to Apple's products & Chromebooks, or will this become a new hardware requirement for Win11? We'll get a new version of Win11 every year, and this could conceivably be a requirement to upgrade to a newer version in the future.
