I suspect there may be an ISO released soon. I usually don't post anything about Insider updates unless there's something notable, e.g. the banner saying a device's hardware is not supported, that's expected to show up on regular copies of Win11 in the future. In this case the update reinstall routine is revamped, but there's also an unusual amount of problems. Otherwise, *to me*, the new features added are kind of Meh, though I'm upset they removed Disk Cleanup from the disk properties dialog in File Explorer.
Updating my copy of Win11 in the Beta Channel the whole experience was a bit odd. Microsoft is apparently trying to improve the experience of updating Windows when a full reinstall is required. The good news is that it took less time. Installing Win11 is slightly faster than installing Win10, and the monthly updates don't take quite as long -- only the needed bits are downloaded rather than a complete package -- but this seemed an entirely new process than what we've seen in the past when Windows needed to completely install a new version.
It seems it's still a work in progress. Ideally the PC/laptop will restart just once or twice -- if there's a problem & it crashes, the setup routine will try to resume, and in the past we'd see this noted on the bottom of the screen. This time it restarted over 1/2 dozen times, with no notations of any sort. Then afterward, when I went to restart into regular Win10, maybe 1/2 dozen times it showed it was performing an update, so I went back into that Insider copy of Win11 to make sure it finished. Windows Update couldn't find any remaining updates, so I don't know if this was a glitch or Windows actually updating.
Windows File Explorer was also screwed up at first. The text window showing the path, e.g., This PC > Windows (C:) > Users , was missing, and it didn't show all of the files in a folder, unless I clicked Contents on the bottom right, and then a file would only partially display, cut off by the top of the window frame. It was like that for quite a while, as I tried to figure out how to fix the path window, and then it started working (?).
The update reinstall process alters the boot loader [BCD], at 1st making sure Windows setup is the default, removing any delay for the boot menu, then after the update is complete, restoring the original boot menu while adding the rollback option -- once the old copy of Windows, stored in Windows.old is deleted, either by running Disk Cleanup or after 10 days, that Rollback option is removed from the boot menu. I've had this process screw up the boot loader in the past [several times actually], but this time it's strange... everything seems to be OK, but the boot menu doesn't take up the entire screen like it did in the past. I *think* it's something to do with Win11 -- I get a similar display booting to my Win2Go drive since adding Win11 to it.
Finally, and of no importance whatsoever, while I'm not a fan [by any means] of the rotating dots Windows shows to tell you something's happening, so sit tight & shut up, it's IMHO 10 times better than the new worm rotating in an oval that showed up during the reinstall.
