OK, this falls in the category of maybe shaping your future plans for hardware upgrades if you're a serious gamer [yeah, I mean you, WR :) ]. Microsoft is pumping Win11 as the best [or only] way to take advantage of DirectStorage, but per Windows Central, it will work on Win10. The tech itself comes from the Xbox, & was developed to take advantage of super fast NVMe SSDs. The normal processes for reading / writing to hard disks aren't the fastest, most efficient way to get it done, but they're more than adequate for the conventional hard disks, and later SSDs it was designed for. Designed for Very fast NVMe drives, DirectStorage changes all that. However, the one thing you do need is patience -- only the code itself has been released, so now it's up to the game devs to include it in their games.
