Nice looking hand held; great if you want to play a few games before going to sleep, or slouching on the sofa. I purchased the Steam controller when it was first available with the intention of playing games on my lounge TV using the other device they released at the same time that would link your TV. (forgot the name of it). It's still unpacked but never used in one of my study desks cupboards.
I had to copy paste the link to see the video.
Seems a great console, though you'll need a Lot of patience to get one -- Steam says if you pre-order now, it's expected you'll be able to buy sometime after Q3 2022!

Running Linux using their Proton version of WINE, loads of games already available -- it may get the Xbox Game Pass, while Xbox Game Studios lists verified compatible games.

iFixit is supposed to supply parts in the future, & Steam is making the needed files available so many parts can be printed with a 3D printer. And as of this week it can run Windows, though some drivers & dual boot capability are still missing.

Thank you for the info.
They've increased production, so the wait time will hopefully decrease. They're also working on Win11 support, adding AMD's fTPM, and details are starting to leak on version 2 of the device.
A good game assistant, though you will have to wait a long time to get it.

"Make your own giant Steam Deck RIGHT NOW"
Back in early March, Valve released the Steam Deck recovery image for Deck users who need to get back to a factory state. When it was released, many of us over at the Steam OS subreddit did the first thing any reasonable enthusiast would do and tried installing it on a standard PC. The results of this approach were mixed, and only partial successes were achieved. Then HoloISO happened. The first release, called ‘Ground Zero’, was released today and allows users to install Steam OS on any machine.
Hoowever...
Steam OS uses a technology called Gamescope, which only works with AMD GPUs. This is what enables Steam Deck’s system wide FSR, where any game can be upscaled from a lower resolution to your display’s native resolution. The Phawx has a few really good demonstrations of this over on his YouTube channel. He demonstrates several games, running as low as 540p, upscaled to 720p using Gamescope. So, If you have an Nvidia GPU, stay away and try Chimera OS instead.
