The idea behind shareware is pretty basic: try it & if ya like it buy it. It's the same idea behind most of the offers on GOTD -- use it to see if it's worth paying for to support the dev, and get updates / support when you do.
Well, Microsoft gave the UK's NHS free access to teams because the pandemic. 1.2 million NHS staffers now use it. Now the UK's Secretary of State at the Department of Business, Kwasi Kwarteng, is looking like the Grinch this Christmas, investigating claims that Microsoft may one day stop giving Teams to the NHS for free. If/when that fateful day arrives, then like any other biz or gov agency, NHS will have to decide if it's worth it or not -- they'd certainly have the option of not using anything, using a competitors product etc. Kwarteng apparently fears that on that day the NHS might decide, yeah, we want this. From the following linked article:
added the Daily Mail's source. "Their licence renewals will not only be incredibly expensive. But it will be too late to find a system that is cheaper and frankly better.
WHY? Assuming the NHS IT staff was competent enough to set up Teams, they'd be competent enough to switch services. This isn't like Apple or Google forcing you to use their stores & pay for the privilege, nor is it like Google determining what you see when you search, and it certainly isn't like Microsoft making it so extremely hard to substitute another browser for Edge. It's like a mean parent not wanting their kids to play any games, watch TV, eat cake, cookies, & candy, because once they enjoy themselves, there's no going back, kids will wanta have fun. If come the 26th these folks start walking funny perhaps Santa gave them a chunk or three of coal. :)
