I'm different than most people I think, using Win10's Mail app so I can save individual emails [or a chain of emails] as .eml files, that I can later open with Microsoft's legacy Live Mail. I sort & back them up so they're viewable on any Windows device. And in today's world of web mail, that may make me a dinosaur. For all those folks using Gmail, and not with something like Win10's Mail app or Thunderbird, this article gives a pretty good overview on how to save your stuff.
