tomshardware[.]com/news/samsung-ssd-controller-shortage
An unusual winter storm hit Texas, which on the southern edge of the US, generally has mild winter temps. The state's electrical grid & producers suffered big time failures because of the low temps, and Samsung's chip foundry shut down because of that. This is the 2nd report I've read saying that the shutdown has created a shortage of Samsung's SSD controller chips, and the reduced supply could lead to higher prices. That said, it's unknown whether any price increase actually happen, or not. If you're on the fence, thinking about buying a new SSD but haven't made up your mind yet, this *may* be all the incentive you need.
