   *To me* this is just wild. PCs under high load [e.g. gaming] get HOT, and people have gone through tremendous efforts to basically keep them from melting, to the point of liquid nitrogen for extreme overclocking stunts. In the past, with older designed CPUs I've relied on my PC as a partial room heater in winter -- it actually raised the room temp by a couple degrees fahrenheit -- but this puts that waste heat to good use.

   My study is always the warmest room in the house due to my main computer being run for a large portion of the day. The heat that is expelled from the exhaust fans, especially when I'm playing a high end game with fantastic graphics is quite significant.

   It's one of the reasons I stopped using midi cases for my computers and opted to use the full size gaming cases. They have a lot more scope for cooling fans. My main and second main computers have three 12cm fans in the ceiling , three 12cm at the front (cooling hard drives), two 12cm at the back and one 12cm in the base, plus each of the graphic cards has three fans, plus I always buy separate coolers for the CPU never using the ones supplied. Apart from a little temperature rise next to where the exhaust from the graphic cards hits the side of both computers, plus the exhaust from the PSU, the rest of both cases remain cold to the touch; whereas when I used to use midi cases, the whole case used to get quite hot when laying AAA games and I'd have to use external fans to cool them down.

   Back in the day...

   Remember [Not Fondly] pulling the case cover -- they didn't have doors then -- and setting a 12" fan on the floor blowing on the CPU & board as soon as the weather got warm every year. Then there were the mods, adding smaller fans inside the case using wire from coat hangers & a glue gun. And then with one particularly hot running version of the Pentium, the process of engineering a ducted fan for the CPU -- Intel recommended using cooler air from outside the case. Never got too paranoid about it until the power regulating chips on an early AMD Phenom board melted and caught fire! On the replacement board made individual heat sinks for those chips, attached with special glue, and used an infrared thermometer to make sure it worked. Since then, fortunately, it's been easy to find boards with those heatsinks already in place.
