Right click a drive in Windows Explorer, click Properties, & on the 2nd tab of the pop-up is Error checking, which says: "This option will check the drive for file system errors." It's handy, relatively quick, and normally spares you the hassle of rebooting or restarting to check [& hopefully fix] errors. And it seems it misses as often as it hits... I've had good ol' Chkdsk find and fix errors that never showed up using Error checking.
