Yesterdays Giveaway, was a bit of a failure for me. I followed the link, even managed to register with Magix, only to get an error, when I tried to download the software. The message said,'Maintenance was being carried out, please try again later'. It's still saying this now. That's another giveaway, I've missed.

Still waiting, as I assume everyone else it -- hopefully someone will say something if Magix does come through.
RE: Vegas itself, FWIW...
Years ago it was created & developed by Sonic Foundry, but despite some heavy hitters as customers, it never could get close enough to Premiere in popularity to make enough money to keep the doors open. I *think* part of the problem was their audio software took a big hit from growing competition that was [sometimes much] more capable when it came to music creation/production. They wound up selling their software line to Sony, keeping the US-based dev team intact. Sony was hurting financially though, and never really made use of their acquisition -- the only change was the brand name to Sony -- so they sold everything to Magix. I've not been a big fan of Magix, but times change and I was willing to reconsider, or if we're still waiting for a key a month from now, maybe not.

FWIW, *maybe* taking some sting out of the situation...
I used Vegas Pro from its 1st release through v. 12 -- the encoders in v. 13 were a step backwards, & there were no new features I thought compelling enough to overcome that. It was always a very idiocentric app... to get the most out of it required learning how to work with -- and around -- all sorts of issues that bordered on bugs. Balancing that was extremely good audio handling [it was developed by an audio software company after all], a GUI that many felt easier than Premiere, and some very good mpg2 & AVC encoders if you had one of the right graphics cards and also had Windows set up properly so that GPU assist worked -- loads of users didn't, so for them those encoders were probably average.
Today however there's all sorts of competition, from DaVinci Resolve [free & paid] to open source & free editors that have progressed quite far. Having & using a discreet video card, rather than relying on a GPU bundled with a CPU, is also less common. So long story short, having a copy of Vegas, whether v. 15 or 18, or somewhere in between just isn't as valuable as it once was, or put another way, maybe not worth worrying about.
