Win10 lets you run Linux in a window -- it's like running a Linux VM, but more & better, without the VM software's overhead. The 1st version used more emulation -- the 2nd includes a Linux kernel. WSL 2 is part of the May, 2020 Win10 update v. 2004/20H1, but it's also included in the 2nd cumulative update for August 2020 for Win10 v. 1903 & 1909. [There are quite a few fixes, so it might be worth looking at & applying -- otherwise it'll just be included next Patch Tuesday.]

Additionally there's a new Kali Linux release for WSL 2... Kali is a distro more focused on security, e.g. pen [penetration] testing etc.
