   Microsoft says:

   We are investigating reports that a small number of devices may startup to a black screen during the first logon after installing updates.

   To mitigate this issue, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then select the Power button in the lower right corner of the screen and select Restart. Your device should now restart normally.

   We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

   I've had it happen on 3 devices so far -- as luck would have it none of the 3 had a keyboard attached, so I can tell you if you wait it out you'll *probably* eventually get a display.

   I always run Disk Cleanup afterwards to get rid of the Windows Update garbage, & it usually amounts to 1-3 GB worth. 3 times so far it hasn't worked, not finding & listing the Windows Update junk. Win10's footprint on disk is of course going to be larger than previously when that happens.

   Updates...

   I've had Disk Cleanup fail far more times than it's worked -- image backups of win10 when Disk Cleanup worked are slightly smaller than last month's, and 1-3 GB larger when it didn't.

   After applying August's 2nd cumulative update, some people reported CPU use spiking, apparently caused by a problem with Cortana search with Bing. Yesterday's update was supposed to fix that -- instead for some people it's breaking the Start Menu & Windows Search in the Taskbar. No word on a fix yet AFAIK.

   The update is also breaking some network adapters.

   Microsoft says:

   Safeguard on certain devices with some Intel and Broadcom Wi-Fi adapters
   Microsoft and NEC have found incompatibility issues with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards when running Windows 10, version 1903 on specific models of NEC devices. If these devices are updated to Windows 10, version 1903, they will no longer be able to use any Wi-Fi connections. The Wi-Fi driver may have a yellow exclamation point in device manager. The task tray icon for networking may show the icon for no internet and Network & Internet settings may not show any Wi-Fi networks.

   To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on the affected devices from being offered Windows 10, version 1903.

   Affected platforms:

   Client: Windows 10, version 1903

   Workaround: If you are using an affected device and you have already installed Windows 10, version 1903, you can mitigate the issue disabling then re-enabling the Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager. You should now be able to use Wi-Fi until your next reboot.

   Next steps: Microsoft and NEC are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

   Note We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue has been resolved.
