take a list of .zip files and tell me how many items are in each zip and then sum those totals?
I know, this is very obscure but I do have a need for this and I wonder if anybody knows how to do it. I can, with Windows File Explorer, see how many items are in a single zip (lower left corner of the window) but not how to get the total for a group of zips.

The "test" feature in Easy 7-Zip File Manager should give you what you're looking for.
I copied several zip files to a directory, opened the Easy 7-Zip file manager, navigated to the directory, highlighted the files, clicked "test" in the menu and it gave me the number of archives, packed size, folders, files, and extracted size.
If you want to extract the files and confirm the results make sure you select "No Pathname" in the path mode and "Auto rename" in the overwrite mode. If you don't, you'll spend time trying to figure out why the numbers don't match.
You don't need the Easy 7-zip version. I was badly outdated in the full 7-zip I've been using for years (probably the 32 bit version to boot). I upgraded to version 18.06 from 9.20 and then tried your idea. It worked!
Thank you very much. Not only did you give me what I needed, but you prompted me to check for an update. If it ain't broke, don't fix it is my general philosophy but since I needed something, I might as well check out the update.
Note -- when I update, I keep the old install just in case I get a major failure. :-D
