Like I'm sure most people I form expectations for different companies. I know what to expect with Amazon, and when to expect problems dealing with it. I know to expect English language goofs, [sometimes BIG] exaggerations, & little to no support from Chinese software companies as a rule. I've come to expect Ashampoo to be forthright & honest, but after today I'm going to reevaluate that impression, being much more skeptical in the future. I've seen other software companies change, like Corel, & the now closed down Sony Creative Software, and can't help wonder if Ashampoo's next.
The problem is their web page for today's GOTD, Ashampoo Photo Recovery -- ashampoo[.]com/en/usd/pin/0173/tools-and-utilities/Ashampoo-Photo-Recovery
It says:
These events will cause the loss of your digital photos:
...
The memory card in your digital camera or cellphone is defective
A USB flash drive has been formatted or has become defective
...
Unless there's some sort of prominent disclaimer that their software, or no software, can recover files from devices that are inoperable, to me that's dishonest. Technically they are correct, that you'll lose whatever files were stored on broken media, so it's not an outright lie, e.g. a company selling a video converter claiming zero quality loss. But there's also no reason to include any statements on broken removable media unless it's to remind people that software cannot fix that, Unless You're Intentionally Misleading Potential Customers.
Kinda sad, but there ya go -- another company where ethics may have bit the dust.
