When it comes to working with images, unless you're just doing stuff like cropping &/or adjusting brightness & contrast, you will be working with selections or masks, though to keep things looking simple, some software hides this from you. Masks let you work with or on just part of the image, and most all of the many image editing apps out there include their own set of tools for creating & working with masks. There's even software just to help you create better masks quicker & easier, e.g. Franzis CutOut. However, when it comes to quick & easy selections/masks, I don't think anything can beat Photoshop, as this new video tutorial from Colin Smith [Photoshop Cafe] shows.

Yeah, Photoshop is only available by subscription -- you get Photoshop & Lightroom for $10/mo -- and that stinks, but there's not a ton of choices out there that come close to all of the capabilities you get with both apps. And if you spend enough of your time doing this stuff it may be worth it. If not, then maybe this video serves as a sort of reality check, when some other software CutOut advertises it's "advanced" capabilities.
