Happened to my son last night... People who have win10 pro that was part of the free upgrade from win7-8, find that Windows is suddenly no longer activated. Microsoft is trying to figure out why & fix it, saying Do Not buy a new license.

I saw the watermark in the corner tonight and thought at first it was on the video I was was watching at the time. When it remained after I closed the video, I was like "what the he..?" I rebooted and the watermark disappeared, but after seeing this post just minutes later then going to Neowin for the full article, I checked the activation panel and sure enough- it was still deactivated. Fortunately there was already an update to the article that said to just click on "Troubleshoot" on the panel and that would fix it. Activated once again. Whew.

Glad it worked out with minimum hassles for you. From what I'm reading quite a few people went out and bought new licenses. And if you clicked on the link in Windows to buy win10 Pro from the Microsoft store, it wouldn't let you buy it, so I'm guessing many of those poor folks bought their win10 licenses from places like Amazon, Newegg, Office Depot etc. When/where that was the case, good luck getting your money back -- they're usually pretty strict about NO software returns.
