Microsoft's CEO doesn't want to be in the Windows or PC or anything but the cloud biz, But, that's where more than 1/2 of their income, his income, comes from, if you consider there would be zero market for Office if it wasn't for the PCs & laptops it runs on. So Microsoft begrudgingly develops and supports Windows, despite their best efforts.
I say that as this rig waits for a restart after installing the 4th win10 update since Update Tuesday. It's basically the same as the 3rd update, but Oops, they forgot to stick something in that update, so they re-released it under a new KB number. That said, I have to wonder how important those updates really are... I've only had them show up in Windows Update when I manually check for updates, clicking the button under the banner that [falsely] says there are no updates. Oh well...
The RTM is allegedly here, but that's going by what journalists say their sources tell them -- they haven't released Insider ISOs yet, nor have they pushed it out to the Preview ring. The win10 build number is 17763, and you'll have to set win10 up to receive Insider builds to get it. You also need a Microsoft account enrolled in the Insider program -- enrollment is basically just checking a box that you agree to their terms etc. Go to the same page in Settings as Windows Update, and scroll down the list on the left side to "Windows Insider Program".
*Hopefully* they'll have ISOs available soon -- if so, I'll use that ISO to update everything here rather than having it pushed out via Windows Update, which they say will probably happen next week. I updated my 7" tablet this afternoon via Windows Update -- it was a war between my lack of patience, my anxiety that it might not work on the tablet, and my huge dislike of updating versions using Windows Update. As expected it seemed to take forever to get ready to download, to download, and then to wait for whatever before finally installing. It also didn't work 1st time -- I ejected the microSD card and it worked the 2nd. I prefer to leave the card in, because that's where all the Windows apps & user files are, but... And so far it seems to work OK -- I'll invest more time in it once I'm certain that this is the final release, since like last time, they may discover a bug and hit the brakes.
