I couldn't download this yesterday (or thought I couldn't) because I got the "Successfully Activated" message but no files were downloaded which had happened on all of my attempts over the last few weeks. This morning I noticed a strange icon on my desktop. It turned out to be the installation wizard for this game. My concern is that apparently it is from ToomkyGames and I know we have been advised not to download anything from them. Is it safe to continue the installation?

I have some ToomkyGames. I say OK, but then I am a nobody. Last week I had trouble with my computer (Virus). But I was trying that GamAuthoRy for free steam giftcards. Obviously a scam- Invected my computer badly. I just realized how the word after In above is spelled..Ha Ha. & before lost. Last week I was moving from one Survey site to another- filling out stuff& forms, clicking from box to box. Even Took out my Firewall/Router box the stupid virus/ troj...I was the stupid one as well, didn't know surveys were so dangerous..I don't even know where to blame I was on so many pages..I may have had the Zeus Virus...I hope gone now????
ToomkyGames went from Bad to Good to VERY BAD within a few months a year ago. I say stay away from them. You can get it from GameTop and they're safe (from all my experiences). I got the game originally from FreeGamePick and I don't recommend them anymore -- their installs change over time. You can use one (install downloaded and zipped) fine at one time and then 2 months later, it forces toolbars and such to even play!

I remember the issue with ToomkyGames from last year. They moved from a completely free site to an ad supported site without any notice and destroyed a lot of good will in the process. They're now above board about being an ad supported site.
According to their FAQ, you can uncheck all of the optional items that they want to install and a recent threat report says they're free from viruses and malware. However, the optional installs of the ToomkyGames Gadget and Toolbar would not generally be considered malware.
If you want to install the game then pay close attention to the installation screens and run malware and virus scans afterwards just in case something extra got installed (and don't disable your anti-virus if the installation doesn't work).

The last few times I tried to download from ToomkyGames, they would not install and a lot wouldn't even download. What I did find is they were infected when I checked and it was NOT just their gadget and toolbar stuff. It sounds like they are turning around again. I would not trust them as far as I could throw them!
At least when Jenkat went ad-supported (with iWin), they announced it BEFOREHAND and let people know when it was going to happen. I don't use them either, now, but at least I still respect them!

If they'd announced the change beforehand by simply saying "the old business model isn't working, we're moving to an ad based system" then you could adjust. The sudden change, however, made it look like the big push was just to create a larger user base for an upcoming ad based system. It looked like the old bait and switch routine. And, when bait gets old it really smells bad.
