I'm popping this info here for anyone seeking to know more about Pcvark Software Private Ltd, providers of the December 11 2016 "Driver Updater" giveaway.
Pcvark Software was set up in April 2015. It is privately owned. Its directors are Chandan Garg and Kapil Garg. It operates out of Plot 237a, Basement Floor, Gopal Tower, Ajmer Road, Jaipur, Rajasthan,India. Pcvark Software provides no contact details / address information on any of its websites and masks its ownership details via GoDaddy domain shielding.
The "Driver Updater" software offered on GOTD was a re-naming or re-versioning of the company's "Universal Driver Updater."
The company was counseled, on the GOTD comment thread, not to use the Microsoft brand logo on its website by way of endorsement text, and not to offer a 'toll free phone support' line due to the way this facility has been comprehensively devalued by scammers who, having impaired a user's computer with the software provided, then seek to charge substantial fees for 'maintenance contracts' or remote fixes.
It now turns out that "Universal Driver Updater" has been the subject of complaint about such practice:

It has also transpired that Pcvark has been the subject of an inquiry by Malwarebytes researcher Thomas Reed:

Though there may well be no connection, this company's products and practices are eerily reminiscent of another company, Live Technician, whose "Clearomizer" software figured in a Bits du Jour giveaway in early 2013. Live Technician claimed to be a Canadian company, but was traced to India instead. Live Technician gave a Canadian address as its HQ, but this was identified as a private house in suburban Duncan, British Columbia. Live Technician coupled its wares to toll free phone support which, when investigated, turned out to be pay-up-and-we'll-fix-things affair.
Sufficient grounds existed at the time of the GOTD "Driver Updater" offer to deter prudent computer users from going anywhere near it, the developer's blatant misuse of Microsoft's logo being an obvious breach of trust. There's also the fact that auto-update or auto-clean or auto-optimize software is anything but A Good Idea anyway.
Hopefully, then, there'll have been few if any takers for "Driver Updater" but, if there were, and they subsequently call in here, this info will at least help them to know more about the company they've dealt with.
