26 July 2016: Downloaded .zip file at least 10 times. All runs of setup.exe failed with message "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program." I am running Kaspersky Internet Security under Win 7 Professional. I know there is an issue with Kaspersky, so I switched it off, but still same problem. This is REALLY frustrating. What can I do?

Found solution on another post: Have to turn off Kasperksy AND reboot. Then downloads work ok. BUT this means connecting to the internet with no protection. So Kaspersky internet security is a waste of space. Mind you they have at least admitted they know there is a bug, but do not hold your breath for it to be fixed.

No. The download you had the first time was fine. The GOTD "setup.exe" unpacks the "setup.gcd" file to memory. Kaspersky quarantined some of the program files while it was unpacking which then made the download "corrupt". The correct procedure is to download the file, reboot without Kaspersky running, install the program, start Kaspersky. What can I do?
If you install a lot of the giveaways then you might want to switch to another security program. Kaspersky is the worst offender since you cannot temporarily disable it or set an exclusion that will allow the GOTD setup routine to run. The GOTD setup will not run if Kaspersky runs at startup. FWIW, I use Avast! Free and have no trouble.Posted 8 years ago # -

FWIW, a continual dilemma... Not just Kaspersky, & not just as it relates to GOTD.
Criminals are getting more skilled, better at malware etc., & as more make money at it, & some few make pretty big money, that brings in higher skilled people, & means criminal groups will spend more time & effort. Security software has to become ever more intrusive to try & fight that. While some security software is less intrusive than others, that can always change with a single update.
The best you can do IMHO is stay somewhat flexible, not becoming heavily invested in one brand or another. You can check ratings at sites like av-test[.]org, look for brands that have removal tools [you'll usually have to Google to find those in my experience], & stick with free or low cost [on sale] or giveaway security software. Put another way, since there's likely no permanent easy solution to problems with security software, minimize the negative impact when one of them starts giving you problems. If you don't like one fast food sandwich, go down the street & try another.
