Hi jgf, the game is both single player and multiplayer. You can play the game against the computer. Playing against human players probably means you can only stand a chance of winning if you purchase the dlc's which are really expensive at £14.99/$19.99 each. There are two available at the moment, with more coming in the not too distant future. Each dlc gives you a new deck of cards with 60 cards and one hero. These card based games can cost a lot of money if you buy all of their expansion packs. I foolishly paid a fortune for all three versions of Magic The Gathering (2013, 2014 and 2015) while they were at full price. They are insidious as they release the decks one at a time and then release un-locker and foil packs that add even more to the cost of the game. Magic The Gathering has never been free unlike Spellweaver, but to appreciate the game fully you would need to purchased the expansion decks, otherwise the game would be very limited. Maybe okay for the occasional play, but for those seriously into this type of card game, all decks would be required. :)
I've not checked the free pack that we got via the game giveaway. Another community member gave me a key for the pack after they saw I couldn't get the key, but I've not had chance to activate it yet. I doubt the pack we were given has the same number of cards as the paid for dlc's, but it's better than nothing.
If you like games like Magic The Gathering or Hearthstone or even Pokemon card games, you'll probably like Spellweaver as well.
I know you've not been very happy since the site changed it's appearance and the introduction of the more competitive and limited giveaways, but you've got to admit we have been getting a much wider variety of games, especially unusual indie games that we've never seen here before.
It does sadden me to see the community in such a negative state over these changes. I personally dislike them as well, but as I've been tasked to moderate and post reviews I've had to support the giveaway team, even though I am a volunteer.
It really has become very hard to get free games of the type we've been getting (until recently) due to the changes that have occurred over the last five or so years. with free game site increasing in number and who pay the developers for every game downloaded, the increasing number of extremely cheap indie bundles that have at times given upwards of $400 worth of AAA games for the price of a cup of coffee as well as constant sales has really impacted the sites ability to get developers to give us free games.
