This is a handy tool to get the files out of a setup or install program that I use quite a bit. If a program installer uses an .msi file, this will get the files out without adding to the Windows Installer database in Windows. If setup also runs setup for stuff like .NET or DX or c/c++ runtimes, you can often get the actual program installer without having to run those. And the reason for posting this today, it *might* be a way for some people to get programs running in unsupported versions of Windows, though obviously mileage may vary.
Got too sick yesterday to play with Ashampoo's Snap 2017, so gave a look today. Setup wouldn't run in a XP VM. I remembered a few comments yesterday asked if it would run in XP, so I monitored an install in a win7 VM, finding nothing out of the ordinary, & gave Universal Extractor 2 a try -- it extracted the program files just fine. That doesn't mean Snap 2017, or any app that refuses to install will run perfectly in XP [or Vista], but it could give people running those Windows versions an option to try that they did not have previously.
Ashampoo's Snap 2017?... it's got what I always thought was it's most valuable feature, selecting the video codec to use, disabled.
