   Successfully installed Total Outlook Converter but it does not seem to be activated. I ran Activate.exe many times, both regular and as administrator. And both with Outlook running and Outlook closed (including shutting down the Outlook process in Task Manager). But T.O.C. still does not show any registration code and shows a “Buy Now” button.

   This looks like it could be a very useful program, and I want to try it out, but cannot without a successful activation. Can anyone advise me how to do this?

   If the issue hasn't been resolved then you might try giving "activate.exe" permission to access the internet in your firewall.

   Thanks for that idea. But it says activation was successful, thanks for activating, and restart T.O.C. I do, and it's not activated.

   Apparently, some commenters on the download page says it's activated if the Help > About box says "CoolUtils Giveaway." I hope that's correct, but it indicates really bad user interface programming.

   I checked the comments for the giveaway, as you no doubt did, and find that many people seem to be having difficulty.

   I'd try a couple of things:
   - make sure that the application is closed before activating.
   - reboot to finish the installation and then try activating again (with the application closed)

   Finally, as Mike says in the comments

   "Peggy, I hate to sound the way this is going to sound ..but you have to play with it a little. Open the app ,run the activate.exe file then it should tell you to close the app and reopen to show the app is registered .i had to do that a few times then came up as registered..."

   CrisS, thanks very much for the advice. I did try everything you suggested, and the usual GOTD practice of running Setup, then Activate, and only then launching the program. Yet even now (the next day) the only clue that T.O.C. might be registered is the popup box that said registration succeeded and "CoolUtils Giveaway" in the About window. If it's registered, the programmers should have made the "Enter Registration Code" option on the Help menu unavailable (grayed out or otherwise), and should have added a "Registered to..." statement in the About window. I will convey this gripe to them.
