   I have a notebook Sony - Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - Norton Antivirus.
   Since a few weeks I can't anymore install Giveaway programs.
   I download files but the installation or activation lock always,
   while connecting to the site, on the window

   >> Activating ....
   Connecting to ... checking giveaway availability <<

   and stands idle (indelible and unmovable) waiting for who knows what.
   I think the problem is definitely in my software but so far I failed to break
   the deadlock. Can anyone help me ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

   The GOTD activation process uses the IE engine, regardless of what browser you use, and the most common cause for your problem is a problem with IE.

   First, open IE and verify under the "File" menu that it's not set to "work offline". It will not connect to the internet when set to "work offline". If that's OK, try resetting IE to its default installed state (Tools | Internet Options | Advanced then Reset at the bottom of the box).

   If you changed firewalls you might also need to grant "setup.exe" permission to access the internet.

   In IE-11 no longer exists the option "work offline" but WEB connection is regular:
   I use IE normally for inquiry and dowload. Anyway I uninstalled/reinstalled IE, run
   Option Reset, turned off Nortons Firewall: uselessly!
   Then I uninstalled some programs recently installed: PROBLEM SOLVED!
   Everything is back to normal: I don't know which program caused the block and don't want to investigate.
   Thanks Chris for your tips: there is always more to learn. And just to know: where and how can I find "setup.exe" ?

   Setup.exe is the GOTD program installation file that you extracted from the downloaded zip file and will be located in the directory you designated along with the readme.txt and setup.gcd files. Since you disabled your firewall to no avail it wouldn't have helped to specifically grant internet access to setup.exe.
