For the past several months, during installation of GOTD software on my HP Desktop, I get the error message that follows:
"Another installation in progress. You must omplete that installation before continuing this one." (with the buttons "Retry" and "Cancel")
No matter what I try, I continue to get the same error message even though I know there is not another installation in progress.
Any suggestions?

Entering your error in Google yields 158,000 results. The recommended solutions that I looked at range from clearing the temporary files, utilizing a "clean boot", and editing the "pending installation" registry key. Which of the recommended solutions have you tried?
You might also try creating a new profile. Then, reboot and log-on to that profile and test an installation. If it works, import your old settings/data and retest. If it still works, make sure that you've got all of your data and delete the old profile. In theory, the "pending installation" should be tied to the account that's installing the program. In practice, nobody, including Microsoft, knows how or why Windows does anything.
Backup your system before doing any of the above.
