Follow the link below and find the posts by Wizzard and Ornithos. They have detailed how to set up (configure) DOSBox so that you don't have to manually mount your drive in preparation for playing all your DOS games, which can be a hit and miss affair at the best of times and because of this probably puts many community members off playing any of the games that require DOSBox. Wizzards method requires both DOSBox and Norton Commander, both of which are free downloads, where as Ornithos’s method only requires DOSBox, oh yeah both also need a text editor to configure Norton commander or Batch files in the case of Ornithos’s method. If you can’t find a test editor, go to the giveaway main page, and click on the freeware library link at the bottom of the page then make a search for text editors. You should find at least one that’s suitable..

DOSBOX is quite easy to use! {it's for DOS games that won't run natively in Win XP.}
Install DOSBOX on XP, Vista or Win 7 (it will be listed in start menu programs)
Copy DOS game folders to a new folder called DOSGAMES (no spaces!) on your C:\ drive.
For a game called astro in astro folder in dosgames folder
Run dosbox and type
mount c c:\DOSGAMES
press enter
c:
press enter
cd astro
press enter (cd instruction opens astro game folder)
astro.exe
press enter (use game exe name) and the game runs. You may need to look in the game folder to find the name of the game exe file. Either use windows explorer or at game folder prompt type dir and press enter at the dosbox prompt. You might need to experiment to find the exe or bat file that works! You NEED to type in the .exe or .bat extension.
If it says illegal command, you may have missed out one of the steps, or misspelt something! Check you've followed the pattern correctly! Especially for : use or not of colon.
Just follow this pattern for each game.
Press the alt and enter key at the same time to play full screen / exit full screen.
If dosbox doesn’t seem to respond, make sure you click the mouse within the dosbox window if game uses a mouse!
P key or 'enter' key starts many dos games. Q or Esc leaves game. Exit at the prompt quits dosbox!
[**** You can install the games to other hard drive letters if you have extra hard drive(s). Just use the correct drive letter and install folder name in the above procedure. ****]
Eg For games installed on D:\ drive in mygames folder you would use the sequence
mount D D:\MYGAMES
D:
cd astro
astro.exeYou have to use eight letters or less and NO spaces in the names for the main folder name and game folder name!
You may need to change your screen display to a lower setting eg 1024 x 768 or 800x600 perhaps 16 bit for some older games.
There are online tutorials if you wish to try configuring dosbox itself eg for screen resolution.
Wiki has a page http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/GAMES listing games that need DOSBox!
