   Hi Midori, yeah I've downloaded it, but haven't had time to play it yet. It looked intriguing from the screenshots. I'v been playing some of my older games this weekend. All my computers have now had windows reinstalled. I've been tidying up all the extra hard drives I have on each computer trying to make some sense of all my folders. I have games on every disc, in program files and elsewhere, so I've been slowly copying them all to one place as I have with previous giveaways that don't need registration entries etc. It's a time consuming job, but entertaining as I'm playing a lot of the games (well at least a level or two) as I transfer them.

   I'm also deleting those that are no longer required. I have around 4 to 5 TB of disc space on my internal drives so there's a lot of space to cover.

   Sounds like a fun project! (and of course you have to taste the goodies as you put them away...) but it reminds you of what you do have. I'm due for an organization soon... I've got more free games than purchased games now. My Whiterabbit folder is stuffed (now how many can say they have a folder named after them) so I've gotta start putting sub-folders in, and in most of my other folders also. Gee, if I only felt like giving so much attention to organizing the house it would be much easier to live in. *Q;-)

   Okay, i found another excellent match three for free. It's called Pillars of Hercules and is available from FreeGamesPick. I've not installed it yet as i want to finish off my housekeeping, but I suspect it's one of the Atlantis games (Rise of Atlantis etc):

   An aside, but sort of still on task. Have you noticed how there are only certain genres being given away on these excellent free games sites. Arkanoids that have waned massivley in popularity over the last three or four years are well represented as are Space Shooters (which are also no longer popular. Match Three games started to lose ground to Hidden Object games over the last few years and now we see a growing number of match three games becoming available for free. I wonder if point and click adventures will take over from hidden object and time management games which still rule the roost when it comes to frequent clones being released. You just have to go over to one of the biggest distributor/developers - Big Fish and see how many of those types of games are being given away. I reckon in a year or so, we will be seeing Hidden Object and Time Management games amongst the growing list of free games from the likes of Gametop and Freegamespick.

   I have six months worth of game credits with Big Fish, but I've got enough Hidden Object and Point & click games to last me years. And apart from an arkanoid (Strike Ball 3, all the games i've Bweta Tested at Alawar I'd never have bought. Hardly anything else appeals to me, so I'm building up a massive stock of game credits. (two of the credits are actually returns and I've mislaid the codes, so may lose them, lol)

   One of the better places for good arcade game snow is fileplanets direct to drive. They have a mass of indie games that you won't see on sites like Alawar and Big Fish.

   Thanks for the games. You, silly wabbit! Us, "little 'uns" like "little 'uns" games sometimes. LOL

   Make sure you guys uncheck the boxes for the Ask toolbar and Agreement on the same page of the setup.....if you hate tool bars like me. They steal my real estate of my Firefox not to mention whatever spyware they install.

   Hey, wrabbit... thanks for the extra mentions. And the ventureflock game looks tweety-sweet to me... right, delenn13? Lol. And yes, the genres seem to ebb and flow, don't they. And at the height of the tide, a lot seem to say: "If I see another one of those, I'll !@#$%!" But I tend to ride with the waves and not fight the current. Easy to please, that's me... especially when free!

   And thanks for the 'minder about those toolbar boxes, delenn... oh, I do hate those space intruders also, and tend to keep a keen eye out for the "throw-ins."

   Both Gametop and Freegame pick seem to be using this tactic increasingly, which is a pity. both sites used to be free of such things. Thankfully you can still uncheck them; sorry I didn't mention it. I nearly did, but then got sidetracked. I should really post a standard warning whenever I mention games from those sites.

   Hiya guys. Couldn't help overhearing the conversation about 'cleaning house'....hee hee. Looks like I'm gonna have to do the same with my Compaq computer. All of a sudden, I suppose just out of the blue, the mouse stopped working except for my games, and my keyboard won't work on that one, anymore. When I click onto the address bar, or one of the search bars the mouse stops working, as well as the keyboard. Everything just stops working, and I have to reboot the computer. I don't know what happened, but something did. I have tried all kinds of things to resolve the matter, including trying out that keyboard and mouse on my other computer. They both work fine on it, so I know they're not the problem.

   Speaking of Hidden Object and Match 3 games, I have backed up what I could onto my little flash drives. Hey, a gamer's gotta do what a gamer's gotta do to protect their games stash, eh? lol

   Sue - who realllllly doesn't want to have to reformat that hard drive, but will if she has to....grrr!

   Just checked it - Pillars of Hercules - out, and it is the same as Atlantis Quest, which btw, is one of my favorite match 3's, and gets replayed often...:D

    There doesnt seem to be much new in the way of platform games these days, games like Turtle Odyssey and Jumping Jack, I must admit I'm getting a little burned out on the match 3 games at this point....

    Also try the Indie games day I posted on Tuesday/Wednesday, there's a couple of excellent platform games to be had (Spelunky and The Manipulator - granted they don't have the graphical depth that Tutrle Oddysey has, but nevertheless, the actual gameplay is excellent; (the graphics for both are quite good, but in a retro style). I have another one for my next week a week from Monday, thats considered a classic platformer. {You'll have to wait at least 10 days though :) }

    Unfortunately Freegamepick have now started the same practice as MyPlaycity, with repect to forcing you to agree to having a toolbar included plus your browser hijacked. without agreeing to these you are unable to play the games. You'll probably find their earlier games are still free from this, but I can't be sure. Looks like we've lost a valuable source of free games. at least Gametop still allow you to play the games even if you refuse all offers.

    Has anyone downloaded and played Secret of six seas? I have downloaded this several times, but am unable to play it, as soon as I press the play button the game freezes, and the only way to get out of it is to turn the computer off.

    Not a bad game,Diane.
    Maybe switching from 'full screen' to 'windowed' (in the option tab) will reduce cpu drainage and should make the game more responsive.

    Thanks Quantum Dragon; feeling much better this week. Seemed to have got some energy from somewhere. The problem you saw was with my keyboard. I'm alittle annoyed at it because it cost me around $100 an i've already taken one back for doing the same thing.

    As for Freegamepick games, I've only just discovered that they have reverted to MyPlaycity practices; that is forcing you to install toolbars etc. Iunless you don't mind changing your home page and putting up with extra toolbars, the most recent freegamepick games will not be worth installing. I usually test all the games I post about, but sometime miss doing so. This is one of those occassions. I was sure freegamepick was okay as they have never asked for toolbar insertions etc previously; now they have gone the whole hog. I'll have to place a warning on the post above.

    I downloaded a few from MyPlayCity. I unchecked the toolbar/homepage boxes & they seem OK so far. I've been playing one game on & off all day & so far it hasn't forced me to get the toolbar or change my homepage.

    Hi Diane,
    When you installed the game did you allow all the toolbars to be installed (Freegamepick and Ask) plus allow your beowser to be hijacked? If so i presume you will have re set your home page. did this affect starting up the game, or are you not getting it to start at all? I'm just thinking that if you have reverted to your default home page, it's stopping the game from working. I know with most of MyPlayCity games the game wont work unless you have your home page set to MyPlayCity and that you have the toolbars up and running. Turning them off blocks the games. After installing two of the most recent FreeGamesPick games I found that to play the game you had to leave ALL the boxes checked, which meant having 2 toolbars installed and your home page hijacked (which is what MyPlaycity do with most of their games now). If I tried to uncheck any of them the play button woul grey out and not allow you toplay the game.

    Some MyPlayCity games do work without having to install anything, but not many of them. I think MyPlaycity started out the same as FreeGamesPick, in that you didn't have to install any of the junk they ask you to now, but as time has passed they have increasingly used this technique to force you into using their services (which basically pays for the game). Thankfully Gametops games are still able to be played without installing any of this junk, though they have jumped on the band wagon in a minor way by including the option to install the junk. :)

    Remember that FreeGamePick is really pushy about that toolbar. If you turn it down during installation, they set the shortcuts to push you every time and if you say no, the game won't run. There is a simple work-around.

    Set your Windows Explorer to show hidden files (if not already set).
    Go to the folder where the game was installed.
    Find game.exe and create a shortcut of that file.
    Rename the shortcut as desired.
    Used the NEW shortcut instead of the one that was created during install.
    If you set the Explorer to show hidden, turn that back off (if desired).

    It works and no more problems with the ask toolbar!

    Freegamepick was the last site I downloaded it from and never downloaded their toolbar. The first site I downloaded it from which I cannot remember the name of and the game has a different name, never had the toolbar download, I have also downloaded it from Gametop. The same problem has occurred with this game from all 3 sites.

    Might be a stupid question to ask nowadays.You do have a 64mb graphics card onboard?
    Another thing you can try is to use these settings:
    (in the option tab of the game)
    - set the screen resolution to 800x600 and set it to 'windowed'.

    Yes I have a 64mb graphics card. I will try the screen resolution at some time, won't be for a while, as I have just switched to broadband, having problems and need to get those sorted out first. Thanks Diane.
