   First off, I didn't download it nor want it but I do look at the comment section daily to see whats up with the offer of that given day.

   Today's giveaway did catch my eye. As I began reading down the comments (but didn't have to get too far to see that this Software was the limited version) I began to think of GOTD's policy on Software offered here. I also went to the software's home site just to confirm what a couple had stated in there comments.

   GOTD offers software that is full functioning (c/p from about page "That means - not a trial, not a limited version - but a registered and legal version of the software will be free for our visitors*"). http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/about/

   This software is limited. Now before we get to versions (LOL) the giveaway doesn't state "Home". In fact they offer it for free since August 2008. (with stipulations of course).

   Now the question might be, Why would they give away there best? Other software developers do give away there best here to get there name out there. Its a price others pay for the best advertising you can get - Word of Mouth.

   I'm just disappointed that GOTD didn't give away a non limited version. Wouldn't it be just as good giving a full functioning "Trial". LOL just want to make you think.

   No the version isn't 'crippled' or the 'usually free' version.

   The product comes in 3 editions. Lite, Home and Ultimate.

   We have been given the middle "Home" edition. As you can see from the above link - there is one particular "specialist" feature that is only available in the top "Ultimate" version.

   Naturally, the users who could use the "missing feature" have said the Ultimate edition would be better for them.

   The developer has done nothing "wrong" in giving away of the $40 "mid" version.

   For the few who would express their disappointment "just because" - if they won a new car - they might complain if it didn't come with all the available options - just because they think a sunroof would look nice and GPS Navigation would be useful.

   The GOTD version isn't limited, or a trial. It is the full version of the developers product that normally sells for $40.

   However having said that - I think it would be in the interests of the developer (Sunrise) to offer a discount to GOTD users to upgrade to the Ultimate version - as many who would have need for the medical features are not the most wealthy - and might consider upgrading if not so expensive.

   Even having a Medical version where some other less relevant features were substituted for the medical related ones and perhaps sold at a lower price (within the budget of some disabled or retired users)

   Thanks for the reply BuBBy but on the software being given away here is "Limited" so it is not in compliance with the GOTD statement as to "No Limitations".

   Its just my expectations even though I have no interest in the same. GOTD's statement "No limitation" versus "Limitation" in the software being presented here is in complete violation of GOTD's mission statement (so to speak).

   I know they need to make a profit to stay in business but whats the difference in offering it here versus there site?

   Sorry ,but you are wrong Archangel...

   This software ain't crippled in any way.Their website clearly states that there are three versions of the Smart Diary Suite.
   The one offered here is the Home Edition,yet displaying features of the Ultimate edition.
   This technique is widely used to make people crave for another version than they already have (a technique I don't approve of either).
   If the Home version didn't display any features of the Ultimate version, no one would have even thought of complaining that is was crippled.
   And this thread wouldn't be here either.LOL.

   BTW I stumbled upon the fact that the company is offering a 50% reduction on the Ultimate Edition(for those wanting more features).

   'Limited' refers that the product is somehow crippled or missing features to the normal equivalent on the site.

   The Home version offered here is the 100% complete version of the Home version offered on their site.

   You cannot really say - the Home version here is a limited version of the Ultimate version offered on their website.

   This has happened many times before when the developer offers the Standard version from their site, when a Pro, or Super-Duper version still exists as options.

   On November 14, the giveaway was the Full (not Limited) 'eReminder Professional' despite there also being a "Special", "Premier", and "Standard" Version being available.

   I love the versions used. Lite (usually a very limited version that is Freeware). Then you have Home (also noted on there site as free) and then Ultimate. I knew before starting this thread that we would be playing on the different names. (Avast has Home and Pro versions and whats the difference? LOL)

   Everyones point is noted and correct. I just wish it had been listed as the "Home" version. As Lakjin commented, I see why they did this and don't agree with it either.

   That I suppose it disclosure enough (I left the comment as is, as I don't like to edit the descriptions of the giveaways) - the description of the program originally had the price listed as TBC (To be confirmed) and it was only after finding out the download was the home edition - that I could edit the description to include the correct price $39.95

   The practice of having multiple levels of product on offer is done everywhere. Buying a car (just the basics - or pay for the extras you want), Cable TV (pay extra if you want Sports, Movies or Documentaries), Microsoft (Over 400 different flavors of Vista).

   Even ordering a pizza is more expensive if you want "the Professional meal" with Coke and garlic bread. If you only order "a pizza", you should get the same standard pizza as you would with the meal - just minus some of the optional extras.

   If the thought of having to pay extra for the advanced, professional, or specialist features - consider it the other way around. The "full" product costs $100 (for example) you can reduce the price if you are prepared to remove some features that you don't want to use.

   There are a number of features that are available only in the professional version (that might even encourage some Home users to upgrade to Pro). The other difference is licensing and not breaking the law (a topic for another day).
