When I attempt to install software the installation program attempts to contact GAOTD for verification but I keeping getting a message reading: "Failed to connect. Please try again later." Does this happen because the installation program is not giving GAOTD site enough time to reply? This happens no matter how many times I try to install. This problem has been going on for a couple of weeks. What can I do?

- Open IE, make sure that it's not set to "Work Offline" (in the File menu)
- reset IE to its default state (Tools | Internet Options | Advanced then Reset at the bottom of the box). Confirm that IE will actually open a page.
Also, you need to be using at least XP SP3 and, more recently, apparently IE 8 or your PC won't have sufficient security credentials to connect to the activation server.

Check the FAQ & maybe check out some or all of the threads in the forum here where this has come up.
The GOTD setup.exe [or activate.exe in giveaways that use it] uses your installed Internet Explorer to contact their web site, making sure that that offer's currently available. If the Windows version is too old, e.g. XP SP2, or Internet Explorer <v.8, it won't work. Otherwise Internet Explorer has to be working properly -- Chris has given several tips on resetting it, reinstalling it, emptying the cache etc. Usually the results have been successful.
EDIT: sorry -- slow typist...
