I keep saying that I’m not into racing games yet I’ve just received the latest in the Need for Speed franchise, called Need for Speed: Undercover.
So far it’s looking good, with elements of GTA, plus the old feel of the earlier Need for Speed games, except the graphics are much improved. It looks like I’m going to enjoy this one more than the previous two games Carbon and Pro Street both of which were unnecessarily cluttered with menu choices right from the start. I still find Pro Street a bewildering game to play, whereas this new game puts you right into the action from the start.
Here’s some screenshots: (not many yet)

I'm definitely glad I ordered this one. It looks like something’s finally going to drag me off of Fallout 3 which I’ve not been able to stop playing to the exclusion of virtually all of my games since it arrived two weeks ago. The game play so far has been easy, but not that easy that it becomes boring. the sandbox nature of the game reminds me a little of Test Drive unlimited another great driving game that gives you the opportunity to explore over a thousand miles of one of the Hawaiian islands road system in very good and apparently accurate detail, though the city you drive around in in this game is imaginary.
Does anyone know the name of the band who play the music in the first video above?
The only thing that’s missing in my opinion is more destructibility similar to games like Flatout: Ultimate Carnage, where virtually all the objects in the game including the cars are destructible. There are destructible elements to this game, but nothing like what you see in the Flatout franchise. Still. It is meant to be a racing game.
Unfortunately, EA have decided not to release a demo of this game:
