Hi folks, I downloaded the Star Racer game that was mentioned here http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4248 but on running it, it gets as far as a black screen and that's where it sits. Anyone else had this yet? or any ideas what is causing it?

Hi controlled chaos. What are your computer specifications?
When you say it gets as far as a black screen and that's where it sits. Is that after you have installed the game, or during installation?
If it is the latter then it may be that your firewall is blocking the phone home dialer that opens up your browser to Gametop’s home page. All of Gametop’s games do this when you first install them, so if your firewall is blocking it, it may be this that is causing your black screen. If it's not that maybe you need to update your DX drivers or other display drivers. Star Racer is a relatively new game so if your computer has older drivers it may be this that's causing the problem.
Have you tried uninstalling it (if you managed to actually get it installed and then reinstalling it to a new place on your computer?
It may be that your drive is badly fragmented and it just so happens that the games files have been scattered all over the disc, which can lead to problems.

Hi Stephen, I am running XP Pro + SP2, DX drivers are up to date - dx9.0c. I have an Athlon xp2200 and a Gainward GForce 7600 GS, drivers ok. IGb mem and plenty of hd space. I have un-installed and re-installed to different locations. The problem is when I try and run the game after the install, wherever it is it starts to load and then stalls with a black blank screen and goes no further, no error messages etc.
I run Comodo Firewall v3 and cant find a rule for star racer that may be causing the problem atm.
All drives have been fragmented recently, in the last 7 days.
Just tried it again with Firewall off and it runs with no problem even though I shut down the net connection. So looks like I'll have to try and find what setting in Comodo is blocking it.
Now I can run it, just got to say that the graphics are really gorgeous and the game play brilliant.
