   Microsoft has developed its own Linux distribution. And Azure runs it to do networking.

   Redmond's revealed that it's built something called Azure Cloud Switch (ACS), describing it as “a cross-platform modular operating system for data center networking built on Linux” and “our foray into building our own software for running network devices like switches.”

   If they'd spend their time working on something like PlayOnLinux (a front-end for Wine) then they could put themselves out of business. The only thing holding Linux back is an easier way to get x86 and x64 applications running. Or, they could just ditch all of the bloat in Windows and they'd have a viable OS.

   Windows is a lot like cable bundling... you pay for and are forced to install a bunch of stuff that is of zero utility. Linux is more like "a la carte", you just install what you plan to use.

   Well... I see maybe two ways to look at it -- by investing in RedHat Microsoft is in part buying the competition, so they can't won't compete -- &/or investing in *nix is the only way they can give their IT customers what they want/need.
