There’s also an online version that you can try at Big Fish games, though I think you need a particular activeX control for it to work. Usually when this is the case a message will pop up to inform you, but I’ve not been able to get it to work on my computer and no message pops up. I have to agree that it is customizable, and there are 10 distinct versions of the game (I thought dominoes were dominoes, lol) each with its own set of rules, all of which are accessible from the in game menu.

See the links below for several screenshots that will give you an idea as to what’s available. There are 50 different bone designs to choose from as well as three different skins. Buku Dominoes also lets you import your favorite music and the ability to change the playing field background. Although I never figured that out from when I first downloaded this game, lol

I’ve not played dominoes since I was a kid; playing it with real ‘bones’ with my grand parents. I think this game with its variety and customizable game’ will’ prompt me to play the game again. (no it didn’t, lol). It’s an ideal game for filling in those quiet moments.

The music that comes packaged with the game will not be to everyone’s taste; however you can import your own music from the options menu. However you will first have to convert whatever music you want to play in game into .ogg files, which if you’ve been an avid follower of the giveaway teams applications, you should have at least one audio converter. If you haven’t, just keep an eye out because there’s bound to either be another one or an upgrade to one that’s already been given away. :) You can actually find some free ones in the freeware library under audio and video:

There are up to four players, all of which can have a small selection of avatars to choose from. Again, it is possible to place your own avatar within the games folder. These must be 60×60 pixels in size. (one of the graphical editors that have been given away previously such as Zoner Photo Studio , or one of the many freeware versions available such as The GIMP or it’s easier to use counterpart GimpShop could be used:

Conclusion

For overall game play, style and the fact that’s it’s a time honored game, I give it 8 out of 10. I strongly advise all game lovers to download this version.

I have to disagree! I feel when they turn board games into pc games they lose the fun...I used to play Risk almost every day when I was In my late teens and twenty's...we would play all night and day,lol. I tried the pc version and did not like it!
They have done the same to such games as monopoly, life, cribbage, chess, Mahjong (of which I have a very old Chinese style tile set) and numerous others!
Mahjong made the transition ok, but is not the same as actually building the four double stacked walls and moving them into place without having them crash all over the table! Mahjong is a game of 4 people...I did find a pc version called "The Game of Four Winds"...egames had it for awhile (I accidentally deleted mine and had to contact them, lucky Nick over there was able to retrieve a copy for me) that is the truest to form Mahjong game I have found, even though your playing with computer people...
Card games were able to transition fine, but some are not as fun...like sheepshead (a German card game that uses a deck of only 32 regular playing cards)...
My favorite pc card game is solitaire, because it is a game of one!!!!!!

So you see I have no interest in downloading this game and taking the time to create a shortcut.....if I want to be left alone I play the pc games...if I want to have fun and socialize I blow the dust off one of the board games and invite people, lmao!
I'd like to see them do Twister or Horseshoes...after all I do own one good mini golf game..."Toy Golf" from BF...but that is more strategy than it is golf!

Off Topic: Have you played Chromadrome 2 from Reflexive? I might have had the demo on my computer from one of your reviews! It reminds me of my Hippy Days with the psychedelic graphics, lol...I'm trying to play out the numerous demos I have downloaded in my brief breaks from the trailer this summer...and my folder of shockwave games! Or I will be on the verge of pc meltdown also!!!!!

Suki, whilst my old carcass is still nimble enough to play Twister, I follow a strict policy of NEVER EVER EVER performing any activity that might reveal my lack of coordination, and which, by film or word of mouth, could be used against me in the court of public opinion. This includes surfing, dancing, skateboarding, ice skating, skiing, high diving, hopscotch, bowling, simultaneously walking and chewing gum, and of course, Twister.

Hi Suki,
I agree to a certain extent. Your gaming history seems very similar to my own. I too used to play Risk a lot in my teens and 20's and 30's. Though as my friends faded away it became harder to find playing partners; the same to with Mahjong. I to have an old Chinese set, though the bones are not ivory but resin (that's stored in the loft now). I also have a true version of Mahjong that I found some time ago that enables you to play with either human or computer opponents called Hong Kong Mahjong:

Still, if you’ve no human opponents to play against, computer versions are a second best. I still love playing Risk, though the challenge isn’t as great against computer opponents.

As for Chromadrome 2, yeah, I bought it when it was released. And yes it also took me back to my hippy days. I won’t go into details of why it reminds me though, lol. Try Plasma Pong which I posted as a free game about a month ago:

Oh yeah, we also have twister, though all I’m good for now is spinning the arrow, lol. We’ve got loads of board games which we try and play frequently with the kids as it’s much more interactive than playing on the computer, though we also play games together on the computer. I’ve just spent the best part of this morning playing the new match three I’m testing for Alawar called Find Doggy, which my daughter thinks is the best game I’ve got for ages. It’s not available commercialy yet though. (Highly recommended if you have kids as it’s as good as 4 Elements which it emulates, but the graphics are orientated towards kids)

You mentioned another game in one of your posts that you were doing for Alawar along with find doggy...I can't seem to locate that post...but I believe I had played it already...do you remember the name?
I know what your talking about with the hippy days that you don't want to get into...lmao...been there done that...

I agree with you guys about the board games.....they're just not as much fun on the pc.....but then like you said, WR, "If you’ve no human opponents to play against, computer versions are a second best". Some of us are all alone and just have no opponents. Do y'all feel sorry for me yet?

We played Risk a lot when we were first married. We had a friend whose parents were missionaries and he came back to the states when he turned 20. He and I were both very competitive. Well, we were deep into a game of Risk and I started winning.....he got so mad......it was the most fun I've ever had playing a board game. Even hubby had a blast and still talks about it (and he's not into board games). Great memories there....I'll never have those kind of memories sitting alone at the pc playing dominoes.....or whatever :)

Okay, how do I uninstall Buku Dominoes? (Win XP SP2) There's nothing in Control Panel/Add-Remove, nothing in the program lists from the Start button, and no Readme file (I've searched my whole system). Help!

To uninstall , I think there is usually (in the area to which that you unzipped the game file) an icon that says Unistall or just uninst(or something similar)
Click on that and it will uninstall the game!

Buku Domino doesn't write to either the registry or your system folder. All of its files are in its own folder, so all you have to do is delete the folder it installed itself in (and the shortcut if you created one). Mine's in C:\Games\Buku Domino.
