   this site is mainly devoted to commercial software given free for a day, but, also the freeware field has lots of interesting things

   one of the best I found so far is "trueSpace7.6" that's available for download here: http://www.caligari.com/

   it was a $500 software that (after the company was sold to Microsoft in january) now they always give away for free!

   on the same site, you can download also some tutorials and video for a total download (including the software) of over 350MB

   Wow that is some nice software. Is there any support for people that don't know anything about 3d rendering or wanting to learn? I haven't tried any rendering sofware, but now seems like the time to start to learn. I can see this being used to add stuff to home movies or videos, besides for other reasons and games.

   Here's what I wrote in reply to the original post. It should answer part of your question Txnnok:

   If you don't mind giving away quite a lot of personal details such as your full name and address with post/zip code and telephone number and email; (you have to fill in all the fields to subscribe to the web site before you can download any of the files) then this program is a great giveaway.

   You get three files. The actual program (127Mb), a pdf manual (50.3Mb) and a video tutorial (129Mb). For those on dial up that will take some time.

   I'll be exploring this at some point. What I really want is 3DS Max, so that I can create game objects for some of my favorite games such as the Battlefield series; but there's no way that I could ever afford the price tag.
