I've looked for a long time for a color scheme maker. This is the BEST I've ever found.
It is better than free, it is "care-ware". Just reading the comments about what people have done or plan to do, to show caring is inspiring and will brighten your day.

Long time no see, idahl. Thanks for another color picker, similar to one I posted waaaay back in June. Wondered what you thought of the free online ColorJack Sphere? (if you even noticed it)
That was the first in a long line of color pickers to really open my "color tone-deaf" eyes to unexpectedly appealing color combos. Visibone always left me unsatisfied because it provided swatches but no easy compare tool.

Hi RM, I think ColorJack Sphere and Co. (Stripes and Tartan) is really sweet, but it is online, I wanted one which I could use on a secure computer, which meant I wanted one that was down-loadable, Koloroo is, and free also. Sorry, I did miss your post in June it might have been around the time we had yet another death in the family, a tornado and flooding. I was probably cutting up uprooted trees,I'm not sure. This year has gone by in a blur. :)
What I really want is a program which will make a color palette based on a pic file. I saw a good one once a long time ago, but didn't get it at the time and all the ones I've found since have been substandard.

sounds like you're looking for the 'colors used' palette that all the older editors had- I'll keep an eye out, but the last one I recall was in 256 color mode, don't recall any for 16 and 24 bit color modes. they'd have to be huge!

you're not looking for a mosaic-of-pictures picture maker, correct?

Indeed, ldahl, if pressed to say where this year went, I'd be stuck hemming and hawing whilst flipping through mostly blank Months-at-a-Glance. Hope next year is much better for ya.

I appreciate your secure computer need for an off-line color picker. (bosses... can't live with 'em, can't get paid without 'em)

BTW- Tried your Koloroonie... similar sphere concept but IMH(and color-challenged)O the quadrant layout wasn't nearly as good for eyeball comparisons. I've come to enjoy the subtle diffences ColorJack reveals by tiering big swatches on the righthand side. Will keep looking. Must have 18 colorpickers in a folder, now.

Thanks Goodgotd, yeh something like that. I think I've figured out a work around. (But of course it's a pain!)

RM, I've worked with a Mac but I'm using PC's now so I can't use the widget. The online tool from http://www.degraeve.com/color-palette/index.php is close to what I'm looking for, I thought I was on to something but ended up with a nasty trojan. :[
Man it was a bugger!! But I got rid of it as far as I can tell. :)))

idahl, color me officially confused. As you noted, degraeve's is an online thingie, so how on earth did your PC catch anything? Does the trojan have an ID?

Someday, I'll figure out how to use Returnil with confidence and my exposure to malware should be dramatically reduced. Once maizey graduates, maybe she'll take pity on me and walk me through it. As it stands, the whole 239-step process of mounting and unmounting virtual drives makes my eyes glaze over.

Hi RM, I feel the same way about ReturniL! I got three different alerts, Agent. AKWY and KTR, the other one I couldn't catch it's name because it kept eating the warning!
It was the one that was a pain to stop, I had an unknown spyware screen popping up at the same time asking to scan my computer(to sell me protection software). I had followed a link on the Degraeve site. Tell Maizey to hurry up! :)))

FWIW, today's freeware isn't anything to write home about. No pallettizer, that; but, I did publicize this thread on today's GAOTD forum. Hopefully, someone will have an answer to Idahl's quest.

As for the old richochet link, sorry, I don't use one of the link scanner's (i.e., McAffee?) that might have caught that. The only link I bounced to was the recommended ColorHunter, and that didn't cause problems, though I was unimpressed by Colorhunter. I don't usually pass along virus warnings, but I posted an article and software link on another thread about an insidious A New Infection. Sounds a bit like what grabbed ahold of your PC.

Re- Returnil, sadly, I think Maizey's got another 3 years of booklarning to get through.

I agree with you, I did dl Color Picker Pro and two freeware mentioned in the comments(ColorPix and ColorLab), of those three, ColorLab seems to be better but I still like ColorPic the best....oh these names!!!! They are all so similar it is hard to remember which one is which.

I read the article you posted also, it was something like that with me too, I really have no idea where my Trojans originated. I have almost never have had any problems with computer infections of any kind, but my number came up and I got whacked. :))) It almost seemed like it was a time bomb that went off. I just got the back door KTR as I was typing this...my problems continue.... :(

Maybe you should try this Kaspersky FREE Rescue Disk To Clean Virus Without Booting in Windows to get rid of those nasties...

Robert, catch them while they're sleeping huh?! It sounds like a good idea to have this on hand, even if you aren't having a problem booting up from windows. Thanks!

Oh no! I wonder where the bugger is coming from? What sandbox are you using, I want to start doing that too. I have Returnil that was offered here, is that what you are using?

Idahl, this fresh off the AP wires news may explain why men and women can't agree on the color to paint a room (or anything else for that matter... from clothes to furniture to cars). You gals actually know which NAMES go with which COLORS, whereas a guy's eyes glaze over when the discussion moves from primary colors into pastels, tints, hues and shades of grey. :-)

See RM, that explains everything!:))) Actually that was a very interesting article. I once took a color theory class (it was a lot of crazy fun)and still have a soft spot for learning all I can about color and how it works with perception. One of my clients is color blind(no kidding); I find it fascinating to try to understand what he sees in his world... in truth we all don't see color the same, nor do we see color the same all through our life.

Sigh... incorrigible me, seems I'm still typing Idahl. FWIW, even "seeing color" is too limiting... just ask any synaesthetic.
BTW- I finally made time to visit a certain punkin patch and woods, even captured a pixia app. that apparently and coincidentally was just bug-fixed a couple days ago.
Wouldja believe I was one of the original Homestead beta testers way back in the 90's? GMTA. Created my own little storybook for some wee relatives, though unlike a fine artist as yourself, I had to rely on much simpler graphics.
Feel free to touch base to compare notes sometime.

RM, did you keep up your membership? Remember that big maroon Homestead bar at the bottom of your page? Ah, free range days:))) John sold Homestead and I was afraid the new owners wouldn't honor his promise not to charge us founding members any more than the original agreed amount, so far they haven't. I had such fun with it for years, now I almost feel guilty for keeping it. It was a toy for me, one that was cherished but is sitting alone on a shelf while I play Blog. It is much larger than it looks at first, lots of hidden areas and secret paths. I can tell by what you've written, you made it further than many, though many come back over and over and find more on each visit. Amazing to me as I left it where it was a happy spot for my four year old oldest grandson and I. We had to go to WN every night, it was his bedtime story. Go to the gallery and check the very bottom of the page, lower instead of upper case. ;) Or ask a mod.

Did you try Returnil yet? I figured it out, it was actually quite easy and works wonderfully. A true GOTD gem in my opinion(for whatever that's worth).

LDahl - According to some Last Accessed file dates, appears I kept my acct up through about 2004-ish. I let it lapse sometime after receiving the CD version of their editor, maybe round the time when the company began raising fees/limiting pages on non-gold(?) accounts to squeeze out freeloaders, though I vaguely recall a final straw being broken - a procedural glitch on their end that torched several websites I'd created and no offer to help recover 'em. Although far superior to Yahoo's Pagebuilder Editor, it didn't much like my old PC, and email tech support wasn't very good at resolving domain and ftp queries.

Maybe you should have stuck around, I got a lifetime guarantee that the price would remain the same with all the pages I want and a ridicules amount of megs and bandwith... after another year, they threw in the highest level possible with all the bells and whistles, for being a loyal founding member. All told, each month I only pay about what a crappy lunch at Mickey D's would cost(Like I would actually eat there:))). I prepay once a year and it's a done deal. I never did go to CD. I kept a copy of my site on my computer as backup. I remember when there was some problems like you mentioned. I just uploaded my site over again(a pain, because it was dial-up) but at least I had a dedicated line at that point.

The real world dragged me away from Homestead and proceeded to kick me in the nether regions. Never looked back... but packrat that I am, I didn't erase any HD files, either.
Yes, an Admiral seed was dispersed to celticLd last Sunday.
UPDATE: 'Nuther seed was just shaken out of the pod, cast upon the ethers.
