Easiest way to update is through the Java Control Panel applet. Watch out for the optional browser home page hijack during install, something many are already probably used to from whatever game sites. When finished it will want to run a Java applet in your web browser to verify everything worked... If like me Java's disabled in your browser, you'll have to enable it, then remember to turn it back off.
