My wife and I are both encountering problems installing games we've downloaded from Game GOTD. This is a new problem which has only been occurring for the past few weeks. The download and activation steps proceed smoothly, but when we start Setup.exe it will fail with a message stating that "The Archive is either corrupted or of an unknown format." Our new computers are running Windows 8.1 64-bit OS. These same downloads will activate and install without problem on our older Win-XP SP3 computers. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is a solution known?

It's probably your security software flagging the wrapper as a threat and quarantining some files. Then, when setup.exe finishes unpacking the archive it checks the manifest and determines that some files are missing, which makes the archive "corrupt".
This is a known issue with Kaspersky and a small number of PCs. If you're running Kaspersky the only known workaround is to download the program, reboot in "safe mode with networking", install the program, and then reboot normally. If you're not running Kaspersky then try disabling the anti-virus or setting an exclusion for the file/directory.
You can use the daily giveaway as a test. The wrapper should be the same. If you can install a normal giveaway then you'll be able to install a game.

Hi Bearplay, also check out the FAQ's in the Game Discussion sticky section. There are some other suggestions.
Are you trying to install the software directly from the zipped file, or do you unpack them first? This can also cause problems. If it's not your security software (as Chris suggests) there could be something running in the background that is conflicting with the giveaway wrapper. Maybe a program you've recently installed.
When you next try to install a game, if the problem occurs again, immediately check your Event Log. This is accessible either by typing Event Viewer in the search field from the start menu or going into your Control Panel, then if in Small or Large Icons view, opening up Administrative Tools then Computer Management. You should see the Event Viewer under System Tools. Or if in Category View, click on System and Security then under Administrative Tools you should see a link to your Event Logs.
