When you say it "failed to launch" did you get an error message of "failed to launch" or did the program simply not start?
If it's the "failed to launch" error then I'd reinstall the C++ redistributables.
If it simply didn't start then your security software is probably stopping the installation, which you might be able to confirm by checking the security logs. As a workaround, you can try temporarily disabling the security software and, if that fails, try rebooting in "Safe Mode with Networking" to install the software and then reboot normally when finished.
FWIW, at the time of this post there is a single post from Karl on the Giveaway page and by this time I'd normally see several more. If you routinely install the Giveaways without any difficulty then I'd suggest waiting... there could be some sort of issue that's being resolved.
It might help to have some added info.
After you expand the HoneycamGIFMaker102-mjd4n2.zip file into a new folder, right-clicking Setup.exe, & selecting Run as Admin. should cause a small message window to show while the program contacts the GOTD servers to verify that the day/date match the giveaway. That's the 1st step or program to run.
Once the day/date is verified the small window disappears, the installation files are unpacked to memory, & the actual installation or setup files are run. That's the 2nd step or 2nd program.
Then after the software's installed another message window will open, & when you close it your default browser opens to the GOTD site. The 3rd program to run in this case would be Honeycam -- there may be an option on the last screen of the installer to run the software, or you might click the program's shortcut in the Start Menu etc.
Which step failed to launch?
Edit: Note: Sorry Chris -- your post didn't show till I posted mine asking somewhat the same.
May not mean anything what-so-ever [probably doesn't], but running Honeycam GIF Maker, used Process Explorer to check it out -- in Process Explorer, right-clicking Honeycam & selecting Properties crashed Process Explorer every time. 1st time I've ever seen anything like that, ever. Thought I'd post that info in case there seems something a bit unusual with the way the app works with Windows.
I've had this error during installation and figured out the error was coming from Avira, my anti-virus program. I disabled Avira and installed without a problem.
