Is this like Shockwave? You have to be online to play it, or is the game yours?

Hi Suki,
It's a full version game. Though be sure to watch what you click during the installation process because MyPlayCity are notorious for installing toolbars. Otherwise they are basically the same as Gametop and others of that ilk (there's another one that I never remember the name of). Thanks for posting the link copmom. :)
regards
Stephen

Suki, it's yours. But, like Stephen said, when installing, I do NOT click on installing those toolbars!

WHOO HOO!!! Thanks Copmom, two games I like in one day.. it must be Christmas!!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Something very strange.. yesterday I ran Ad-aware and A-Squared Free and now everything I had on here and any references from MyPlayCity (such as Confectionary) are totally gone... wiped clean!

copman happened to me two, but redownloaded game, thanks the missus loves those hidden odject games
Posted 16 years ago # -
butch552.. can't help but wonder WHY they were totally deleted? Is it a bad web site, or are the programs bad, or are there reasons we need to worry about things we get from there?

Web Security Guard turns bright red with warnings about MyPlayCity. Having said that, we have had no problems with their games that we have downloaded, securitywise.
Posted 16 years ago # -
The only problems with my play city games are the tool bar which can be avoided, the browser being opened when you close a game down, which again is innocuous, and the links to other 'redder' sites. The games themselves if installed carefully i.e. watching out for diallers and blocking them as well as ensuring you uncheck the tickbox for the toolbar (which is ticked by default)when installing the game.
That said I've only got one MyPlayCity game and that was given away via the game giveaway project.

I always UNcheck when they say anything about adding a toolbar! Do NOT want them!

@Whiterabbit
I think I should write up a document on how to run sandboxie... most of the problems people have with games and other softwares would be a thing of the past... I run Confectionary in a Sandbox and restrict access to the internet to all these programs...
Never had a problem... when we got returnil a few months ago now that was a nice GAOTD.. but still if the comprehension is not there well not much can be done..
Best part I like about using a sandbox is that I know exactly what kind of registry's and other garbage that gets installed... If the program behaves well then I install it on my main system..
What makes me laugh is when I see a program try so hard to install some type of spyware or keyloger.. the spyware and the keyloggers just crash.. and I get to play without worries..

So do that shawndion! Puleeze?

I do think using a sandbox program when playing any of these programs is a good idea, though I haven't bothered turning mine on for some time now. (I should get into the habit again), but it would give one more line of safety and ensure that any hidden code doesn't wreak havoc on your computer.
I’d love to see a paper written for the community to share. :)

Stephen, what are you doing up so late? Isn't it about 2am there in the UK now?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Great find! Thanks bunches!

@Whiterabbit-uk
I'll get cracking on it this weekend and I'll find a free server to upload the PDF file for the sandbox tutorial... I think it's about time people learn how to protect their computer's in a much better way...
Unless the moderators have a issue in regards to this.. it's not a tool for piracy but a tool that will help to properly evaluate software and give real critisism to softwares instead of saying :"This software is crap I won't install it and I'll give it a thumb's down approach"
You can do the same thing with returnil to test softwares and if they don't work properly you reboot and your done...

Sandbox seems like a very useful tool for avid gamers. I run boo-coo stuff before I install a game and still things tend to sneak by. Even if it's off a trusted site that I use often. GOTD was red sited, but I still ran some of their programs after scanning them. I haven't had any trouble with anything from GOTD. Still, the sandbox idea greatly appeals to me. I'll be keeping checks on the status of idea. Hope it comes through. Back to you shawndion and Whiterabbit.

Hi all,
I'm a huge fan of H.O. games and tried the demo of Herod's Lost Tomb before MostFun had it. Unfortunately, I found it to be very frustrating. Objects are very obscure and blend in with the scene too much. Also, often there are several items in a scene that could be what you are looking for...but only one is the correct item.
You should try it anyway as you may have a different opinion. Now that it is free at MostFun maybe I'll download again and try to play a bit longer.

I thank you for the link too! That's one of my gripes about the HO games, many of them have the object so dark or blended into the scene that they are impossible to find! I'll give this one a try!

Hi Nashcat, I know this is a month late, but thought just to clarify things. the reason the giveaway site was marked red by Site Advisor was because someone posted a bad file in the freeware section. As soon as the giveaway team were made aware of it, the file was removed; yet it took Site Advisor nearly a year before they reverted the site back to green despite the site being as safe as Fort Knox.
I do think such slack reporting by McAfee is out of order in a world where viri and other malware are rife and the community are partially led by such indicators. I'm sure it would have put some off visiting the site. And it is one of the reasons I've stopped using McAfees Site Advisor in preference to The Web of Trust (WOT),
Posted 16 years ago # -
Yep... WOT is showing green right now and McAfee has reverted from green to yellow lately.
By the way, I'm about 75% through with Herods Lost Tomb. The first 2 scenes were pretty dark, but then I got the hang of it, and other scenes lightened up. And they do have a help that really does help as a last resort that isn't limited to just 5 clues like the other HO games have.

Shawndion and WhiteRabbit- I think It's this conversation where I first heard about Sandboxie a week or two ago- you got me curious so I had to learn about it. I must say I havent completely figured it all out, but I've got it working and that's the important thing... I was about ready to give up on free game downloads, frustrated with my registry getting messed with- I usually am able to delete a game pretty easily when I run the free versions of Spyware Dr. and Norton Security Scan, but the other day the scan told me that it wasnt able to fix the keylogger and something that iWin's Magical Forest game did to me. That really scared me- I think I've been too trusting with these sites maybe... My Windows firewall gave me some sort of a warning, but it always does with the game sites and I just check off the Windows Firewall No Permission thing, (whatever it's called) but that apparently didn't work for that one game. And I didn't really want to use a restore point if I didnt have to.Anyway- I didnt mean to tell a long story!! Just wanted to thank you very much for mentioning Sandboxie because I didn't even know something like that existed and I feel much better now regarding my indiscriminate downloadings!!
