I have a question. I have been looking everywhere and have found no answer. Does anyone remember that old MS-DOS game called Tank Wars? I have been looking on the internet for that game that I could play on my new windows xp system. I would like it to be free but if it's not it would be good to know. Is it out there anywhere because that had horrible graphics but was a crazy awesome game lol ;]

Well, all of the links you gave me were REMAKES of the game and not the original. On the wikipedia page for it which you provided I found a link to download the original game at the bottom of the page. It is the original game files and they don't work on a windows xp machine. So my question was, Has anyone ported it over so it's a standard windows application but is still the original game and not a remake of it? I understand this may be impossible but I was just wondering. Thanks for your time and please I could use a yes or no whether this has been done or not or whether it's even possible.

Chip have you tried playing the game via DOSBox? I think you'll find using that it will work. I will be posting an article on the DOS Box at some time in the near future because I have quite a few games I want to post in the free weekday games thread. There are so many excellent games available using the DOSBox.
You can download it for free from the following address:
http://downloads.phpnuke.org/en/download-item-view-g-v-v-b-v/DOSBOX.htm
Each time you want to play a DOS based game you have to mount the drive you have the game installed to (though it's recommended that you install all the DOS games directly to the root directory (C:\) as this gives the best performance. Mounting the drive is easy; you'll find instructions come with the program. Though I cannot guarantee it will work. :(

Thank You Both For All The Help :] Dos Box works great for me and the game runs just like it would in the old days (Bad graphics and all lol). Thanks hotdoge3 for directing me to the link for the game. And also, thank you whiterabbit for showing me Dos Box. And i also want to thank you for all of your great reviews on software and your freeware game project. You are a valued member to the GAOTD team and I have used your revies many times to decide whether the day's software was for me or not. So I'm glad I can play Tank Wars now on my winxp machine (even though for some reason it runs really fast). The only thing I hate about Dos Box is the fact that you have to mount the drive with the game on it each time you play the game but it's not really a big deal. My only other question would be, where can I find more free old ms-dos games because I hate having dos-box for just one game. Thank you both :]
