I use my screensaver for its intended purpose. I'm using the Beziers screensaver included with Windows because it seemed to me that it would do the best job of preventing burn-in.
I'm not a big fan of fancy screensavers. To me, a sceensaver is something which is rarely seen, and it will only be running when I'm away from my computer. Since I have a laptop, the 3D screensavers are particularly harsh. If I leave my computer for awhile, I will return to an extremely hot computer. This is very, very unpleasant.

The best screensavers I have ever saw came from a company called "D3DigitalIllusions"
For a while they were gone... almost forever.... I loved their screensavers so much and they even had a program where you could make your own beautiful screensaver...
But yeah after they shut down all the screensavers that you could find on the internet needed to be registered and finally you could barely find any if at all. They do have one screensaver out right now that is commercial and it looks really nice...
Thats there current site to see the new screensaver they are offering.

Well, I rarely use screensavers myself, but Astro Gemini's space screensavers (i.e. Solar system and Earth ones)are a different story. Very realistic presentation of our solar system, some scientific data -no wonder that's their bestseller.

Best screensavers I've used are a combination of the Google Pack screensaver, and the stuff from Really Slick Screensavers.
My system's also authorized to power down the monitor after 22 minutes (giving me 12 minutes of screensaver). Both're free, which makes me wonder why someone would pay $10, $20, or even $30 for something they are, in all likelyhood, only going to see for 20 minutes?

Hey, I also a fan of Astro Gemini screensavers. Solar System 3D is one of my favourite as well:)I got it at giveawayoftheday for free and was amazed by the graphics so much that decided to get more at http://www.astrogemini.com By the way, I contacted them with the compliments and was provided a discount. I think they provide good customer service.

Anyone else have problems with the Titanic saver from astrogemini?
First Teatimer from Spybot S&D screams "Toolster.MScheck" and kills it, then wants to delete the installer.
I *just* downloaded another copy, does the same thing. I also (once I got teatimer killed and just installed the (*&^) thing, including the saver manager (I reported all this as well as being pretty insistent that they should make the manager optional for the ones that already *have* they like....)- tried running it....
And got an error message out of it saying it couldn't find the entry point into dbghelp.dll, which on W2ksp4 is version 5.0.2195.6613. Or should be, since this OS is windows 2000 professional with SP4 *and* rollup pack 1, nice and new install.
Luckily I found v6.2.13.1 of dbghelp.dll in my Comodo Firewall directory, (is that wacked or what? only other copy on the system...) which, after working around the system file protection that wanted to put v5 back in, got it to work. so far all I have from astrogemini is "we'll check this".
Screensavers are not a priority for me, and on my laptop, why bother. I mainly use them as a trigger for things like Diskeeper so for sure it isn't going to hammer the system when I'm actually using it. Although I usually use the bioHazard one for simplicity and not much CPU impact.

Magnetic is by Incredimail. Isn't Incredimail adware, or practically adware? Has anyone downloaded Magnetic and tried it? BuBBy, you suggested it. I would like to try it, but I'm not sure. . .
Posted 17 years ago # -
I tried it and ran it for quite some time - it wasn't adware when I was using it.
I had no reservations in recommending it at all. Very nice product/collection.

Thanks.
Guess I'll set a back up point give it a try.Posted 17 years ago # -
Is there any screensaver that will just give me a completely black screen (without going into stand-up or hibernation) while I am running, say a video conversion program ?
Posted 17 years ago # -
Windows comes with a screensaver that is simply called "Blank".
If you want to disable standby or hibernation that is best done by going to "Monitor Power" (on the screensavers tab) - click on the "Power Button" and select a power scheme (like "Presentation") or you can define your own.

Bubby,
Many thanks. I didn't realise there was a 'blank' option. I've been worried about burning an image of the control panel of a video converter into my screen, because it can take hours to do a good quality conversion.Posted 17 years ago # -
When I an converting a movie or two and heading off for some sleep, I power off the monitor completely - That's what I use - the best screensaver of all.
(BTW - most modern displays are nowhere near as susceptible to image burn as the CRTs from 10-20 years ago)

Hi, I'm back with the news about Astro Gemini screensavers. I went to the site just recently. They released a lot of new screensavers! Marine Life and Halloween in the Attic are just awesome! By the way, I found an interesting option. If you highlight all on the page, you will see a small cross in the upper left corner. I clicked on it and sent a message from that page with a name of any screensaver (there's a form on the page) just to check what was that all about. In a while I received a message with the link to purchase the screensaver with a discount! I think it is a great option but it's difficult to find so I decided to tell the others about it. :)

is it true that today's laptops and desktops dont require any screensavers. i ve read it from one source one time (didnt keep the source, been like a year since then or more).
You continue using a screen saver but it has no positive effect except for slowing down your downloads or whatever your computer is doing. some screen savers are cool but thats all about it.
can someone confirm this information (bubby?)

They can stop dead pixels.
I let my screen go off after a minute, I do use a screen saver for an hour at night
to keep my monitor fresh.I use a screensaver that was modified for a windows system from the mac.
It's called flurry.

wow! so basically your screensaver will turn on every minute until you scroll or move the mouse...hit the keyboard. add to that the fact that you allow your screensaver to run for an hour at night (when you're ot using the computer)
if you do that, it means that my source is very wrong. it means that a screen saver is very important right?
so if you run it for one hour at night it will stop dead pixels? does it cure them or what? cause basically you get dead pixels from the amount of time that your screen is running burning...etc. it doesnt have to do with running a screen saver for an hour?!!
thanks for the info.
why didnt you reply to my portable anti-virus question in the other thread?
Posted 17 years ago # -
I replied and gave you information and a link.
The same one thats below.

thanks i read this post but i did post another comment.
you see i already downloaded the clan portable anti-virus. but i also noticed this:
Modifications
I made some modifications to the default version of ClamWin to make it more USB key friendly (decreasing total install size and the number of writes to the drive, which will increase drive life). These changes are listed here so you'll know what they are, and so you can recreate the process, if so desired.what do they mean by "(decreasing total install size and the number of writes to the drive, which will increase drive life)"
will this antivirus hurt my drives or its totally the opposite it will increase its life and why?
also it appears that this software is manually triggered. if a computer is infected by a virus in its memory then my portable drive will catch the virus before i can even function the clan.
thanks.

I bought Aquazone Desktop Garden Aquarium plus a couple of expansion packs a couple of years ago and have not found anything better apart from the latest releases; of which there is a whole range of packages that includes Oceans of the World, Seven Seas and Open Waters. They are so beautiful you can easily be forgiven for buying all of them plus the expansion packs, for example, Amazon River for the Seven Seas package and the Open Seas expansion packs.
There are loads of different species to be found in the three main packs. i.e. jellyfish, sea turtles, nautili, Sharks, seals whales, sun fish, Coelacanths, Damsel Fish, and so many others.
20 different tanks - each with unique plantlife and coral, and that's just with one of the sets!
Fill the screen with of one or more species - allows as many fish onscreen as your computer can handle!
Beautiful, realistic day and night lighting conditions
Digital food – feed them and watch them eat
“Tapping” on the glass – watch as the fish watch youFish cam – closely follow your favorite fish friends
Great sound effects
Your choice of 8 photorealistic backgrounds, and you can place your own backgrounds as well.
4 exotic 360 degree environments
Add entire schools of fish onscreen
Shake some food into the seas and watch the fish eat

The only gripe I have is with their purchasing policy. I only use a debit card to purchase online, which the parent company do not accept anymore. Also the earlier desktop garden series which I bought is not compatible with the newer titles. If you have the spare cash I do think this series is the best of whats out there. (But that's just my opinion. :)
