The IncrediMail game gives NO options for install. I uninstalled it as fast as I installed it. I do not accept games that insist on Program Files and give me NO options on install at all.

Dragon Lair;
You can always move the game if you want to a different drive, etc.
That is what I did..as I have all my games on a second drive.
It is a very challenging and good hidden object game with great graphics..Posted 15 years ago # -
02Gram09:
That had a pretty scary part in its EULA..I was suspicious when the "about us" section had nothing in it.. so I read the privacy info and amongst the endless sections, came across this..
4. CONTAMINATED DATA AND MALICIOUS APPLICATIONS
"You hereby acknowledge and understand that by using the Internet and/or the Site and/or the Service (including by mere access) and/or the Software and/or the service provided by the Service Provider and/or any Application and/or Content, You may be exposed to contaminated files, computer viruses, eavesdropping, harassment, electronic trespassing, hacking and other harmful acts or consequences that might lead to unauthorized invasion of privacy, loss of data and other damages. Furthermore, by installing the client side of the Software on Your computer, You understand that: (i) certain system non-personally identifiable information, including statistical data, stored on Your computer will be made available and transmittable to other servers; (ii) other information available now or in the future on the Site and/or Service including links, services, messages advertisements, cookies and the like may be installed on Your computer and; (iii) each of the Companies may automatically transmit to and install on Your computer, software improvements, corrections, adaptations, conversions to more recent Software versions or any other changes to update the Software. You hereby waive and/or cause of action against Exent and and/or any of the Companies in respect of the aforesaid."Eeek I would be cautious...
Tizz , thanks for the info!
I have enough games right now to keep me pretty busy...lol!

Merri,
Thanks for that hint. Often times, the only way you can "move" from one folder to another is to uninstall and re-install. If it has "hooks" elsewhere, it may not be possible to move it. I was able to move this folder (I moved the entire "IncrediGames" folder and I fixed the shortcuts rather than recreate them.
I did check the registry because I saw it doing something there during the registration but they were just internet hooks.
It is a nice game but given the extra complications, I will not be recommending this one to my "novice" friends. I don't want to have to walk them through the move. The shortcut is the easy part - they can just delete them and recreate the shortcuts in the final location.
It's still very poor programming to insist on it being in a given place and having NO options during install except the approval of the EULA.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi Dragon lair!
Yes very true.
YES novice users might have difficulty with moving the file, as you say.
Incredimail should realize this..and allow the user to install where they want.Iwin games is notorious for its' "hook".
I am still trying to get rid of the one on my computer form there.
I am thinking it MIGHT work if I install a iwin game then uninstall it with revo uninstaller..(thus removing the "hook"????Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi Merri,
The "Iwin hook" starts up with the system and you can't remove it when it's active, but you can disable the file and remove it when it's not active.
I don't know if you have a program that includes a start-up manager or an advanced task manager, but if you do then I would suggest giving that a go instead of downloading more Iwin files.
Most of those managers will list the file under "services" or under "browser helpers". With a task manager you should immediately be able to delete the file manually after you've stopped it, but with a start-up manager you'll need to re-boot first and then delete it.
Hope this helps!Regards,
LanPosted 15 years ago # -
Hi Lan!
I cannot delete the hook file, have tried a million times..
I am only about 50 % computer literate, so although I know how to maintain my computer there is always lots to learn, so thank you so much for this info!
Would you call win patrol a good start up manager?
Or what would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
:)Posted 15 years ago # -
Try this piece of dontationware:
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
It can unlock some files that are blocked from deletion, but not in use by Windows itself.
Of course, use with care.By the way, Merri, have you tried Windows built in startup manager? I assume you have. If not, type msconfig in the Run menu under the classic start menu, or it's under Administrative Tools>System Configuration in the Control Panel. It includes a startup manager. Don't have any of those games so I don't know if IWin shows up there. I assume it doesn't, since Gargoyle is talking about it being a service or a browser helper. On the other hand, if it adds itself to services it should show it under the services tab in msconfig and you can deselect it there. Good luck!
Posted 15 years ago # -
I will definitely look into that, thanks!
I am so HAPPY to learn about the services section of the msconfig.
I had searched for anything in the start up section before and knew that iwin wasn't there.
But I was surprised to see two items loitering under the SERVICES section, so deselected both.
Thanks again!

You're welcome. Happy to help. :)

Hi Merri,
Sorry that it took so long to get back, I just woke up with a keyboard imprint on my forehead.
It's been a while since I removed Iwin from my computer. I remember that msconfig showed IwinTrusted, but I don't remember if it showed the hook. There are two tabs in WinPatrol that will show you if msconfig did the job.
Under the "Services" tab : highlight the Iwin file and look at what it says in the "Startup" column. It should say "disabled". If it doesn't then you can click the "Info" button on the bottom right, choose "disabled" in the little drop-down menu, click "Apply" and close the pop-up screen.
Under the "IE Helpers" tab : right-click on the Iwin file and select "Delete File on Reboot".
When you've checked all the (Iwin) files that you want to get rid of then it's time to reboot. After that you can manually delete the files that you'd set to "disabled" with either msconfig or WinPatrol and it wouldn't hurt to check if the browser helper is really gone.
Empty the bin to clear the file(s) that you deleted and they should be gone for good ;-)

Hi All
When I posted details of the 'Incredimail' game give-away, I had no idea that it would cause such controversy and aggravation, especially for you 'Merri'. I am sorry to have been the messenger. However, that said I am at a loss as to the reason you are having the problems that you are? As I myself downloaded, installed, played and un-installed the current game, without incident.
My PC setup is
WinXP SP3.
Ashampoo Firewall, (Running)
Spyware Terminator, (Running)
Avast Anti-Virus, (Running)
MalwareBytes AntiMalware,
Secunia PSI,
Advanced Windows Care,
Dr. Web Cure It,
RegscrubVistaXP,
Ultimate Defrag,
AVG Root Kit,
Spyware Blaster,
All Freeware.Incredimail is my email client and has been for several years (Free Version of course, I'm a Freeware Junkie)
I ran 'msconfig' and saw nothing linking to either 'IWin' or 'Oberon Games'. I also ran 'Trojan Remover' (30 day trial) Full System Scan - nothing to report. So, apart from the scaremongering in the EULA, which is much of a muchness these days. As everyone has to cover their backs, one way or another and a disclaimer is as good a way as any. After all everyone likes free stuff and what better way would there be for a potential virus or malware threat to launch itself onto the unsuspecting masses?! That's why my motto is...
You can NEVER have enough protection!
Posted 15 years ago # -
"You can NEVER have enough protection!"
Except for your antivirus and firewall programs; use only one of each.

Very true, please pardon me for not being more precise. But I didn't advocate that you should double up on anything. ie running similar software in unison. It could be a recipe for disaster.
I've just noticed I have left an important programme off my list. I don't know how, as I use it at least 4-5 times a day... I am referring to the brilliant Ccleaner! :¬]
Posted 15 years ago # -
Magicool1 .. FYI - Ccleaner just recently had an update. Just wanted to mention this! *-)

Thanks for that copmom

LOL Lan!!!(I woke up with a keyboard inprint on my face...lol)
I am going to get winpatrol again and do that process then...
(I used to have WP but for some reason uninstalled it)
Many thanks!
:)Posted 15 years ago # -
Hey there Magicool1!!!
It's ok, it wasn't me that had difficulties with the IM game, but Dragon Lair (I think?)
I had just expressed annoyance with the Iwin Hook sitting on my hard drive...
I am enjoying the IM game; it is QUITE challenging but I started it again without the timer which makes a HUGE difference..lol.
Take care!
:)Posted 15 years ago # -
Lan, I got Winpatrol and got rid of the IE "hook" for iwin..so happy!!!
Many thanks again!
The other item that I was wondering about is this
em.exec.exe..
I found that
it relates to my logitech mouse but is really only for something called,"smart move" which I don't use.
It takes up a LOT of my computer's memory and I usually disable it before playing games.
Now I wondered how to disable it from starting when windows does...
Is it related to Logi_MWX.exe? and could it be disabled ?
thanks in advance...
:)Posted 15 years ago # -
Merri - Smart Move means that your mouse cursor jumps automatically to the default button in any pop-up message boxes. You can turn this off in the Setpoint software that Logitec provides to enable all the special functions of its mice. Setpoint also contains the appropriate drivers for your mouse. You don't really need Smart Move but I do find it handy. I have always used Logitec mice and have never seen a file called em.exec.exe. Are you sure this is a Logitec file? A search of my system does not find that particular file.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi pavid..
oh ok, I have appreciated that option so maybe I will just do as I have been doing and disable it before playing games.
Here's the info about em.exec.exe
from
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/em_exec.exe.htmlProcess name: Logitech Mouse Application
Product: MouseWare
Company: Logitech
File: em_exec.exe
Security Rating:
(Low, almost non existent)"Logitech Mouse tray icon from which you can access the Control Panel Mouse properties and help."
(oh yes, my logitech mouse is not cordless ;terrible dinosaur..lol)
thanks!

Hi 02Gram09..
I got that info from their "_terms of use_" section
(It's always good to read everything they have, IMHO)
Here is the link:
http://www.freeridegames.com/do/general?partner=Default&jspName=terms
My quote is taken from the #4 entry..
Interesting as I still get nothing displayed when I click on "about us"..are you using firefox or IE?Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi Merri, Re: (4. CONTAMINATED DATA AND MALICIOUS APPLICATIONS
"You hereby acknowledge and understand that by using the Internet and/or the Site and/or the Service (including by mere access) and/or the Software and/or the service provided by the Service) NOTE: USING THE INTERNET, which applies to all websites including Game Giveaway and this forum. As long as your virus, spyware and firewall are up to date as mine are you should not have a problem.I only use Firefox. As I stated previously, I have been using freeridegames, for several months and have not have any problems. I have played several of their games. My virus, spyware and firewall are all up to date and yes I do use Ccleaner also. Don't understand why you don't get anything displayed when you click on the "about us". I tried to copy and paste it but it only copied, could not paste in this forum.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Merri, I went and tried again to copy and past the about us and here it is:

Hi 02Gram 09!
thanks for the info, it is odd that it doesn't come up on my computer...
The site sounds good and if you haven't been experiencing trouble that is good too!
I am sure that Mostfun and Gamehouse have much the same info if one "drills" down through the EULA's as has been said here previously.
Does Freeride games display ads ?Posted 15 years ago # -
Hi Merrie, NO.........No ads. You need to download a portion of the game and as you play it it automatically downloads. It takes sometimes several days to play a game, when I am done I just delete it and play another. I truly love the site....
Posted 15 years ago # -
I tried to go there and Internet Security | WOT Web of Trust gave it a BIG black and red screen with ALL red ratings. I usually use WOT as a guide but with game sites...I usually don't take chances. So I didn't even try to go. No game is worth it.
Make sure you use EULAlyzer® if you download a game. It might be interesting to see what is in there..... since Merri found that other interesting part in another EULA which really should raise some doubts and fears. Such as "You may be exposed to contaminated files, computer viruses, eavesdropping, harassment, electronic trespassing, hacking and other harmful acts or consequences that might lead to unauthorized invasion of privacy, loss of data and other damages. Furthermore, by installing the client side of the Software on Your computer, You understand that: (i) certain system non-personally identifiable information, including statistical data, stored on Your computer will be made available and transmittable to other servers; (ii) other information available now or in the future on the Site and/or Service including links, services, messages advertisements, cookies and the like may be installed on Your computer and; (iii) each of the Companies may automatically transmit to and install on Your computer, software improvements, corrections, adaptations, conversions to more recent Software versions or any other changes to update the Software."
Merri, you are correct. Pretty scary! Sounds like they can go "in and out" of your PC as they wish.
Posted 15 years ago # -
delenn13..
Yes it doesn't seem a wholesome site to visit; the access to ones' computer sounds pretty outrageous.
That is the trouble they don't show ads so WHAT are they getting from the user???
